  • Truth

I couldn’t love this more! What do we do about vets that are promoting waiting to spay and neuter until age 3. People argue that privately owned pets aren’t going to breed. I beg to differ. Where there’s a will there’s a way.

  • Must Listen!

Finally a podcast that tells the truth about animal welfare instead of sugarcoating everything. Andrew and Dr. Jeff don’t just talk about feel good rescue stories, they get into what’s actually happening behind the scenes. The system, the challenges, the stuff most people don’t want to hear.

    It’s honest, it’s blunt, and it’s necessary.

If you care about animals and want to understand what’s really going on, not just the version made for TV, this is worth listening to.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

You Feed It, You Own It
Q: Why do you think municipalities resist intake, and how can policy change help?
There needs to be a clear chain of command and a safety net that supports humane options; legislation should require timely animal control response and enable rescues to operate effectively without being drowned by bureaucracy or burdened by no-kill rhetoric.
You Feed It, You Own It
Q: Kathy, do you have advice for people who want to start similar rescue efforts in their communities?
Start by learning state and local laws, then make a practical plan that avoids overextending resources; offer low-cost vouchers, and partner with vets to create a sustainable program that helps feeders become caretakers rather than relying on a concierge service.
A Shot at Ending Overpopulation
Q: What are the regulatory and cost hurdles to bringing this vaccine to market, and could it be cheap enough for widespread use in low-resource settings?
They discuss regulatory costs, potential EPA/USDA pathways, and the aim to produce a cheap, easy-to-store product that could be distributed globally, with emphasis on scalability and booster strategies in the future.
A Shot at Ending Overpopulation
Q: Is it going to replace spay and neuter, or is this just an alternative for places where it's not accessible?
The panel explains that replacement would require full FDA approval, which would entail substantial funding and testing, and that the approach is intended to complement, not replace, traditional spay-neuter where accessible.
Cruelty Without Consequence
Q: Do you think breed-specific legislation is effective, or should the focus be on responsible ownership and training?
Breeds themselves aren't the problem; it's the humans who own and manage them. Proper behavior, responsible ownership, and rehabilitation are what make a difference rather than blanket bans.
