  • Excellent podcast with a genuine host

Alex is such a great host who has meaningful conversations with guests on a wide range of topics. It amazes me how much he reads, whether biblical studies and theology, economics, history, and more—and because of that he’s able to talk with lots of people from different disciplines and areas of expertise. With a name like “Protestant Libertarian Podcast,” you can guess where he’s coming from on certain topics, but he’s a gracious host and willing to listen well to people with whom he disagrees. ... more

  • My favorite podcast!

Alex does a great job of explaining how libertarianism as a political philosophy is compatible with Christianity. Insightful analyses and critique of biblical studies, economics, and libertarian writings that are easy to listen too and understand. History, current events, and meaningful interviews. If you’re a Christian, libertarian, both or neither, you will learn from this podcast. Give it a listen!

  • One of the best libertarian podcasts out there

So many libertarian podcasts out there, and many are good. But Alex does a superb job keeping it simple while also taking the ideas of liberty beyond the barebones basics.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep 272: The Apocalyptic Worldview of Ancient Judaism and Christianity with John J. Collins
Q: What are the defining characteristics of Apocalypticism as a worldview beyond its literary form?
Collins explains that apocalypticism is a worldview that sees history as linear with an imminent but transformative end, includes a cosmic dimension with a multilevel universe, and anticipates a future in which the righteous are transformed and mortality is overcome, often accompanied by a judgment of the dead.
Ep 252: Government Officials Advancing the Gospel with Christopher Chen
Q: Are there clear limits to Christian involvement in government, according to your book?
Yes, there are limits driven by conscience and biblical ethics; believers should not violate their consciences, and the example of Daniel and others suggests a careful balance between faithfulness and public duties, with guidance to not force others to violate their conscience.
Ep 252: Government Officials Advancing the Gospel with Christopher Chen
Q: What does Theophilus add to your theory about a Roman official being a reader or patron?
Theophilus, as a term for a friend of God, also functions as a potential stand-in for a Roman official readers, which helps frame Luke-Acts as a careful account designed to inform those in power who might influence the gospel's reach.
Ep 252: Government Officials Advancing the Gospel with Christopher Chen
Q: Why did you choose centurions and high-ranking officials as the focal point for your argument?
Because these officials are repeatedly shown in Luke-Acts as cultural gatekeepers who, in some cases, protect or advance the gospel from within hostile regimes, suggesting a nuanced model for believers in public roles.
Ep 258: How to Read and Interpret the New Testament with Max Botner
Q: What is the proper relationship between theology and biblical studies?
Botner argues they are distinct but deeply interrelated disciplines; biblical studies should inform theology, and theology should contextualize and guide biblical interpretation rather than function as a competitor or replace historical analysis.

A thoughtful show at the intersection of Protestant biblical study and libertarian philosophy.
