  • They're a bit more woke than they maybe think they are, or worse, pretend to be. Also mostly political, a tiny bit of "Christianity" here. Could balance their talking points in light of Scripture more. Listened to a dozen or so episodes so maybe a rough patch I started at but unless their ideology changes regularly, I suspect this just stays as a Liberal-tarian podcast that maybe mentions anything Christian for 5% tops per episode.

  • What a Bummer :(

I used to like this show but they have gotten sucked into the right wing cult thinking that most evangelical Christian organizations seem to be into these days. They are giving platform to conspiracy theorists and even using Jesus as a prop for this. Gross!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Politics, Economics, and New Testament Interpretation, with Alex Bernardo
Q: What do modern Christians not realize about the way in which both New Testament scholarship and pastors deal with our modern categories when interpreting ancient texts?
We often fail to have clear definitions of capitalism and socialism, which impacts our understanding of the Bible's context and its application today.
Politics, Economics, and New Testament Interpretation, with Alex Bernardo
Q: Why is it that New Testament scholars seem to want to dip out of their lane regarding economic discussions?
Many scholars lack the time to deeply study economic theories and therefore rely on secondary literature that may not provide a complete understanding.
Politics, Economics, and New Testament Interpretation, with Alex Bernardo
Q: What prompted you to want to write about this?
I realized that there were disjunctions between claims made by New Testament scholars and their modern applications to politics and economics.
The Decentralized, Non-Violent Faith of the Anabaptists, with John Roth
Q: Is there a merit in the right's small shift toward non-interventionism?
While the shift is positive, it can stem from isolationism and nationalism rather than a genuine sense of responsibility for others.
The Decentralized, Non-Violent Faith of the Anabaptists, with John Roth
Q: What do you think Anabaptism has to offer at 500 years old now, particularly in an American context?
Anabaptism provides distinctive emphases like non-violence, communal living, and a focus on the kingdom of God over worldly kingdoms, which remain relevant today.
