  • They're a bit more woke than they maybe think they are, or worse, pretend to be. Also mostly political, a tiny bit of "Christianity" here. Could balance their talking points in light of Scripture more. Listened to a dozen or so episodes so maybe a rough patch I started at but unless their ideology changes regularly, I suspect this just stays as a Liberal-tarian podcast that maybe mentions anything Christian for 5% tops per episode.

  • What a Bummer :(

I used to like this show but they have gotten sucked into the right wing cult thinking that most evangelical Christian organizations seem to be into these days. They are giving platform to conspiracy theorists and even using Jesus as a prop for this. Gross!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Did Marxism win American Education? with Robert Bortins
Q: Tell us about Classical Conversations and how it differs from traditional schooling.
Classical Conversations centers on Christ, does not separate Bible from other subjects, uses community-based classes, emphasizes Socratic discussion, memorization, and public speaking as core skills, and aims to equip students to think like scientists and mathematicians rather than just learn facts.
Can Libertarians Win? Hope for Liberty in Our Lifetime Revisited, with Jacob Huebert
Q: What is the practical path you advocate for people who want to live more freely today?
Focus on personal liberty and self-improvement, explore jurisdictions with more liberty, use legal avenues for incremental wins when possible (like court decisions), and recognize that broad societal change to a libertarian society is unlikely in our lifetimes.
Can Libertarians Win? Hope for Liberty in Our Lifetime Revisited, with Jacob Huebert
Q: Given the historical pessimism about electoral politics, do you think there is any role left for libertarians in elections today?
There is a limited role in terms of showcasing principled stands and enabling printable, concrete wins, but the overall strategy should remain piecemeal and principled rather than seeking broad political power as the primary path to liberty.
From Evangelical to Eastern Orthodox, with Mike Maharrey
Q: What prompted the shift from evangelical Protestantism to Orthodoxy?
A combination of discontent with American evangelical culture, a search for deeper spiritual life, and powerful experiences within Orthodox worship and church history led him to pursue Orthodoxy while maintaining his libertarian beliefs.
Should We End Food Stamps TOMORROW? with Patrick Carroll
Q: If we're asking what to do on the margin today, starting from the status quo, wouldn't it be prudent to maintain some welfare as we reform?
Carroll responds that a strategic, principled approach is needed: push for meaningful reductions now while relying on a robust pathway of gradual reform, and he uses thought experiments (e.g., prison meals) to illustrate how reform should balance practicality with principle.
