  • Enlightening & entertaining

Podcasts were MADE for explaining music. You would think there would be more of them, on the model of Bernstein or Gould’s work explaining music they performed. Sam’s commentary on the music itself and the performances is first-rate. I only wish there were more of them!

  • Even for non-virtuosos!

I haven't thought about classical music since those good ol' days in high school orchestra... But this podcast does an amazing job of showing how classical music is both fascinating and relevant!

Sam Post explains it in such a way that my father (classical aficionado), my sister (old-time/ bluegrass fiddler), and myself (musical dunce) can all understand and enjoy. Definitely recommend for musicians and non-musicians alike!

  • Exactly what I’ve been looking for!

I’ve always wanted someone to explain and demonstrate to me how to listen to Bach, why he is so great, etc., and this is just what I have been looking for! Some detailed breakdown of the pieces, without using too many jargons, perfect for people like me who’ve listened to numerous pieces by Bach (and actually played some on the piano myself) but never found out why he’s considered the beginning and the best of it all.

  • Great stuff ...

These are really wonderful dissections of some incredibly beautiful music from Bach's Art of the Fugue .... a great mix of performance and description, all for the purpose of giving some sense of what makes this music so extraordinary.
