  • Consistently thought provoking

I’ve been a long time listener to the podcast and newsletter subscriber. I was surprised when I saw I hadn’t rated this yet. Needless to say, it’s five stars. Aaron Renn brings a calm yet different perspective than you often hear. He also brings a wide variety of guests to interview on a range of topics. It’s worth listening to a few episodes. After you do, I imagine you’ll find a new show to add to your playlist.

  • Who is this guy?

I listened to about the first 6 months of his podcasts. At that point, I felt like I was wasting my time. I also wondered, why is this guy so guarded about telling us his opinions? I know many factual things about his life - from Indiana, moved to Chicago and NYC, went to Keller’s church, was a consultant, worked at think tanks MI and AEI, moved back to Indiana, etc. But I know very little about his opinions. He may think that it’s important so people don’t reject his ideas based on biases aga... more

  • Clear insights for Christian men

I really like Renn. He’s attuned to the question of many Christian men:

    - What attracts me to Jordan Peterson that I find lacking in Bible-first churches?

    - What can we learn from General Revelation that we aren’t hearing during the Sunday morning exposition of Special Revelation?

Thankfully, there is a growing number of insightful godly voices, who are talking about challenges and solutions for modern Christian men. Renn’s analysis is as keen as any, and his urban, city-loving perspective a... more

  • The 3 E’s: Entertaining, Educational

Aaron is a master of making complex issues clear. He brigs a razor sharp mind and genuine inquisitiveness to each topic. I appreciate that he reads his newsletter, but it’s hard to listen to in the background, so I prefer to read those. For easy listening sake, I prefer his conversations with guests as they better suit the medium. Keep up the great work Aaron!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

AI Is the New NAFTA | Brent Orell
Q: What do you mean by AI is the New NAFTA?
Brent Orrell explains that AI could trigger broad economic transformation similar to NAFTA, with significant benefits but also uneven displacement; the goal is to anticipate and plan for a range of scenarios rather than rush to regulation.
Art, Beauty, and Human Creativity | Margarita Mooney Clayton
Q: What does Jacques Maritain say about the vocation of the artist and the role of reason in art?
Maritain argues that art derives from human creativity guided by divine inspiration, directed by reason and virtuous habit, so art serves the good rather than purely personal ego or unrestrained sensation.
Art, Beauty, and Human Creativity | Margarita Mooney Clayton
Q: Are Artists Transgressive, Conservative, or Neither?
Conservatives can be generators of beauty and abundance, not merely keepers of the past, by embracing virtue, discipline, and a constructive form of creativity that aligns with the common good.
Modern Christian Womanhood | Emma Waters
Q: Can you summarize the Tent Peg Strategy and why you chose it as a framework for women today?
The Tent Peg Strategy is drawn from Jael's domestic leadership, emphasizing that women can fight for good and defend their families from within the home by cultivating discernment, shrewdness, resourcefulness, hospitality, and wise counsel, while viewing marriage and motherhood as central, complementary roles rather than secondary. This framework provides a practical, faith-centered path for women to actively shape culture without leaving their duties at home behind.
AI Skeptics Are About to Be Left Behind | Dean Ball
Q: What was the experience like working on AI policy at the White House, and what were the main aims?
Dean Ball explains he helped draft a concrete action-oriented policy framework, with goals to unleash AI's benefits while managing risks, ensure government use and adoption of AI, and address diplomacy and national security issues.
