  • A Boring & Irrelevant Podcast

I’ve been subscribed to this show on my podcast app for a couple years but rarely listened because when I did listen I found the discussion to be boring or irrelevant or both.

Today I saw that the PGA Tour & PIF merger were going to be discussed, so I naively thought that this episode wouldn’t be boring and/or irrelevant. Wrong! I got uninterested the moment the NY Yankees, of all things, were mentioned and then one of the hosts said “LIV bots.” If I wanted to listen to an “analysis” of this... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Off Course – Golf Balls with Jason Finley
Q: How has the Tour ball lineup performed with new concepts this year?
The team felt they had a solid spin profile across the lineup, with only minor adjustments in the X model to fine-tune spin; overall, conversions to the new products have been strong as players adapt to the improved performance.
Off Course – UST Mamiya LINQ PowerCore
Q: How do the three PowerCore profiles help with fitting?
The color-coded profiles—white for low launch/low spin, blue for mid launch/mid spin, and red for high launch/high spin—provide a quick visual cue for fitting, simplifying the process for both retailers and players.
Off Course – UST Mamiya LINQ PowerCore
Q: What makes LINQ PowerCore different from previous LINQ generations?
PowerCore introduces a nano resin matrix with Q-material, designed to improve hoop stiffness, reduce ovalization, and enhance energy transfer, which translates to more efficient ball speeds and tighter dispersion without compromising feel.
Off Course – Johnnie-O on Tour
Q: How does the company decide which tours or players to prioritize, and how do partnerships influence brand perception on and off the course?
Their process focuses on a sweet spot in the world rankings (roughly 25 to 75) and ensuring players can be authentic brand ambassadors; practical contracts consider length and availability, with performance and visibility on TV accelerating brand recognition and consumer conversion.
Off Course – Johnnie-O on Tour
Q: What goes into the decision to sponsor a PGA Tour player, and how does Tour exposure impact sales when players win and appear on TV?
The team uses a scorecard to evaluate players by world ranking, potential for signature events and majors, and alignment with the Johnnie-O brand; sponsorship also hinges on American, brand-fit players. Tour exposure has proven to boost credibility and drives sales as players wear Johnnie-O during broadcasts and in pro shops.
