  • High Handicapper Gear Nerd

Great show lads. Nice to know and understand a little more about golf gear and the intricacies that go in to getting the right gear for your play style. It’s helped me as a high handicapper look past the butter knife blades and get myself set up with a lovely set of Ping G430 irons.

Happy to do a virtual WITB as a social golf loving jouster.

Q: Do spinner or wedge shafts actually increase spin?
The hosts conclude there is no solid evidence that spinner or wedge shafts inherently increase spin; perception and feel can drive beliefs, but measured data from fittings typically show minimal or no spin gains.

Q: How does the price of McLaren irons compare to other premium brands?
McLaren irons are priced at about 360 pounds per iron, which places them above many competing premium irons and above average entry prices for premium sets, signaling a high-end positioning.
McLaren Golf Has Arrived, But Is It Any Good (And How Much Are They Charging?) Plus, The Best Training Aids To Maintain Your Game & Freddy Schott What's In The Bag!
Q: What is the initial McLaren Golf lineup and when will the rest be released?
Initially they released an iron lineup with Series 1 and Series 3, with Series 2 expected to come later; the full lineup is not yet announced, and launch timelines beyond a rough window were not provided in this episode.
What Are The Best Golf Clubs Of 2026 (So Far)? Plus, Testing The New 'Rolled Back' Golf Ball & Why Is There So Few Specialist Junior Golf Clubs?
Q: Is there a practical way to test big changes like a ball rollback in a real tour setting?
Yes, run a short, controlled dress rehearsal tournament with varied settings (driver head size, ball type) to observe effects on scores and playability, rather than relying only on lab data.
What Are The Best Golf Clubs Of 2026 (So Far)? Plus, Testing The New 'Rolled Back' Golf Ball & Why Is There So Few Specialist Junior Golf Clubs?
Q: What are your thoughts on junior clubs and the best option for a beginner?
We think the Ping Prodigy and the US Kids Golf lines offer strong fitting processes and age-specific specs, with Ping providing an adaptable growth path and a one-time adjustment service, which helps when kids grow quickly.
