  • 5 stars without Mark, 1 star with Mark

Re-instated Ams are bad because they abdicated their amateur status when they chose playing for money. I agree with Lou, if you have no success, you can come back. If you hold a Tour card, you are the best 125 players in the world and should never be playing against orthodontists again. Sorry, there are still local pro events where you scratch the competitive itch. As to my title, Mark cannot tolerate anyone who doesn't agree, he just railroads people who disagree, thus why he thought Lou agreed... more

  • Reinstated pros are bad for golf

I love the podcast but Mark and Greg are wrong. Once you choose to be a pro and reach certain levels, you can’t go back. Tyson wins Golden Glove, Jordan playing AAU.

The MidAm was set up for amateurs cause the US Am is always won by “pros in training”. A reinstated pro to me the state MidAms are about 1/2 reinstated pros.

But college ‘amateurs’ make more than me. There are not many amateurs left in golf. Why push them out. College kids can make a million playing golf. I can win a few hundred ... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Driver Angle of Attack and Path
Q: Michael asks whether the contact point on the arc after the apex would imply an out-to-in path when trying to hit up with the driver.
The consensus is that to hit up with a zero or in-to-out path, the swing direction may look more inside on a 2D camera, but the overall swing can still produce an upward attack angle; visual tools like a tilted hoop or pencil can help align your perceived path with the actual path, and there's no single correct visual indicator—understanding the relationship between swing direction and path is key.
SMS - Top 10 Tour Pro vs Sub-150 Tour Pros, Greens Hit from 175
Q: What percent of the time are the top 10 players on the money list hitting the green from 175 yards in the fairway?
The top 10 group hits the green about 66.8% of the time from 175 yards, with the 125–150 group around 66.1%, indicating only a small gap between these groups.
Speed and Shot Options
Q: What changes have you made, may it be mental or physical over the last few years, that have made you see the game maybe with more possibility or less overall?
Greg shares that he began training to improve his health, which resulted in greater distance and more options on the course. He mentions how improvements in strength and speed help him tackle holes differently, as well as the benefits of being able to hit shorter clubs into greens.
SMS - 10 Index, 10 Yards in Rough vs in Bunker
Q: What is their scoring average when they make zero doubles or worse in a round of golf?
Their scoring average is 78.7.
Q&A: Clubfitting, How to Have Fun, Starting Juniors
Q: What age should kids start playing competitive golf?
There's no specific age; it's more about the child's competitive spirit and love for the game rather than a fixed age threshold.
