  • Terrible sound, where is the video?

Want to like it but can’t bear to listen. This is clearly a video production that has forgotten that people need to be able to understand the audio. Aside from that complaint, it seems like it would be interesting if I could stand to listen to it. The list of guests is a who’s who of industry insiders who probably have a lot of experience. But the introductions are not quite enough in audio, I’m not familiar with these people and the transcript doesn’t offer that much to go on. I’m quite ... more

Ep. 278: Absolutely Brutal Truths from Inside Legacy Auto with Jan Griffiths
Q: Who was one of your favorite guests that you've had on your show recently and why?
Jan highlights Jim Voss for turning around a legacy auto supplier by prioritizing people and performance, and Bryce Curry for Ford's manufacturing leadership and servant leadership style, which illustrate how leadership behavior translates into measurable cultural and operational outcomes.
Ep. 277: Ford Fathom vs. Slate: Who Wins the Affordable EV Truck War? with Nora Eckert from Reuters
Q: What is the core customer Ford is targeting with the Fathom given its price point and positioning?
Ford is aiming for a broad audience, including mainstream mass-market buyers and younger, urban-focused customers, while trying to bring in new buyers to the Ford brand through a value-focused sub-$30k EV pickup.
Ep. 275: Can Lucid Escape a Billion-Dollar Burn Rate? with David Welch, Detroit Bureau Chief at Bloomberg
Q: How does this pencil out for Lucid, given the plan for cheaper midsize EVs and ongoing cash burn?
He explains that lowering battery costs and achieving volume with lower-priced models is essential, but profitability hinges on scaling without sacrificing margins, while the Saudi PIF's patience and broader market incentives will influence outcomes.
Ep. 275: Can Lucid Escape a Billion-Dollar Burn Rate? with David Welch, Detroit Bureau Chief at Bloomberg
Q: You could be as creative as you would like with this fill in the blank question. David, covering the auto industry in 2026 is like?
David suggests it feels like a repeat of 2005–2007 due to policy shifts, volatility in demand for EVs, and a competitive landscape where a few players dominate, creating a challenging environment for new entrants.
Ep. 276: It's a "Data-Driven Summer:" Inside the EV Year in Review Report with Experian Automotive
Q: What explains the sharp drop in new EV registrations and the rise in used EV activity in early 2026?
The drop in new EV registrations is largely tied to the expiration of tax credits and pull-forward demand seen in 2025, while the rise in used EV activity is driven by off-lease vehicles re-entering the market and greater affordability among a broader pool of buyers.
