  • Slow not succinct

I want to listen to this podcast, I want to hear more about what Apogee is doing. Why it’s different. Why they believe it’s the best route. But Matt can talk so long and almost never get to the point. It’s very inefficient, listening experience, I don’t know Matt personally but being able to sync explain a message is not something I’ve Gotten from his content so far.

  • Great podcast for dads and leaders!

This podcast had broadened my perspective of the potential that I have to impact my sons and set them up to live a meaningful life.

It has challenged me to think outside the box in terms of their education, and what schooling will really set them up for a win.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Dr. Donald Layman: From Nutrition Scientist to Longevity Authority – Protein, Muscle, and the Real Key to Aging Well
Q: If you need more amino acids or protein through supplements, what's your view on supplementing vs. whole foods and the bioavailability?
Whole foods are preferred; supplements can help when dietary intake is insufficient, especially for older adults, but beware marketing claims and remember that amino acids are largely oxidized for energy unless used for signaling, with context (meal composition) affecting absorption and effect.
Dr. Donald Layman: From Nutrition Scientist to Longevity Authority – Protein, Muscle, and the Real Key to Aging Well
Q: Is protein important for cognition as well as muscles in aging, and is there a link between diet and dementia risk?
There are preliminary data linking certain amino acids (tyrosine/phenylalanine) to dopamine production and cognitive function, and insulin resistance is linked to dementia risk; a high-carbohydrate, low-protein pattern may be detrimental.
Dr. Donald Layman: From Nutrition Scientist to Longevity Authority – Protein, Muscle, and the Real Key to Aging Well
Q: What are some good recommendations for the younger kids that we have and how to guide them as they're learning about this?
Layman suggests ensuring protein is included at each meal for growing kids, choosing protein sources that fit the meal, and balancing with controlled carbohydrates and varied options to accommodate picky eaters.
David Smith: From Law Enforcement Officer to Mentor – Trauma, Confidence, and Building Leaders Beyond the Badge
Q: How do you manage the stress and trauma from first responder work in your personal life?
Build intentional relationships outside of the job, prioritize health (sleep, nutrition, fitness), and use a structured wellness framework like Apogee to maintain balance and avoid letting hypervigilance define life off duty.
Austin Sims: From Bodybuilding Prodigy to Identity Coach – Overcoming Childhood Trauma, Finding Faith, and Leading Men’s Personal Growth Retreats
Q: What advice would you give to these young men as far as diving into what their identity is even at an early age?
It's all identity-driven, which is phenomenal. I'm a son. I'm a son of the creator of the cosmos.
