  • Slow not succinct

I want to listen to this podcast, I want to hear more about what Apogee is doing. Why it’s different. Why they believe it’s the best route. But Matt can talk so long and almost never get to the point. It’s very inefficient, listening experience, I don’t know Matt personally but being able to sync explain a message is not something I’ve Gotten from his content so far.

  • Great podcast for dads and leaders!

This podcast had broadened my perspective of the potential that I have to impact my sons and set them up to live a meaningful life.

It has challenged me to think outside the box in terms of their education, and what schooling will really set them up for a win.

    Thankful for the Essential 11!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Davey Allen: From Division 1 Football to Viral Rock Artist – Discipline, Music Dreams, and Building a Career
Q: How did the collaboration on Monster come together?
A Nashville-based writer-publisher connection led to a writing session and a producer who helped shape the song, with multiple trips to Nashville and a joint writing process that built the track from concept to final production.
Davey Allen: From Division 1 Football to Viral Rock Artist – Discipline, Music Dreams, and Building a Career
Q: When did music begin to feel like a real potential path for you?
After graduation, he pursued open mics and local gigs while continuing to work, discovering that consistent practice and performance could transition into a full-fledged career with time.
Dr. Donald Layman: From Nutrition Scientist to Longevity Authority – Protein, Muscle, and the Real Key to Aging Well
Q: If you need more amino acids or protein through supplements, what's your view on supplementing vs. whole foods and the bioavailability?
Whole foods are preferred; supplements can help when dietary intake is insufficient, especially for older adults, but beware marketing claims and remember that amino acids are largely oxidized for energy unless used for signaling, with context (meal composition) affecting absorption and effect.
Dr. Donald Layman: From Nutrition Scientist to Longevity Authority – Protein, Muscle, and the Real Key to Aging Well
Q: Is protein important for cognition as well as muscles in aging, and is there a link between diet and dementia risk?
There are preliminary data linking certain amino acids (tyrosine/phenylalanine) to dopamine production and cognitive function, and insulin resistance is linked to dementia risk; a high-carbohydrate, low-protein pattern may be detrimental.
Dr. Donald Layman: From Nutrition Scientist to Longevity Authority – Protein, Muscle, and the Real Key to Aging Well
Q: What are some good recommendations for the younger kids that we have and how to guide them as they're learning about this?
Layman suggests ensuring protein is included at each meal for growing kids, choosing protein sources that fit the meal, and balancing with controlled carbohydrates and varied options to accommodate picky eaters.
