  • Will John ever let anyone else spark?

I give this feedback because i want to like this pod. I am listening to the show with Dan, John, and Phil. John speaks over the top of Phil every time he begins to speak. It is so annoying. I can almost start to hear the interesting things Phil or Dan have to say but then once again John just starts talking over them . John should just have his own show so he can just talk the whole time. Detour could be Dan and Phil since they can give each other space to talk. John interrupting is so distracti... more

  • Good vibes

I give 5 kangaroos for the Aussie humour and insights, but taken one away for John’s lack of awareness.

  • Always good

The SDP is always a great listen. It often veers off the tracks but that’s part of its charm.

Please though do fix the Bike Exchange advert where the lady says “amateurs…..semi amateurs……..pro amateurs”. That’s obviously incorrect. I’m pointing this out to make sure you can get to change it before Gerry hears it!

  • Please don’t keep getting Phil on…

Love the podcast normally but just can’t handle Phil talking himself up and regaling with stories of a time past.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Tuckwell Takes Over — The Breakout Week That Shocked Aussie Cycling
Q: Was Luke the designated team leader from day one, or did that role evolve during the race?
The leadership pressure evolved; initially the plan was to maximize opportunities and support a couple of GC-focused riders, but as the race progressed Luke stayed in the front group with the main GC contenders, and the team adjusted to preserve both a stage win chance and a strong GC result.
Bling: The Crash, The Comeback, The Crossroads
Q: Has this whole experience changed you as a person?
Yes, I've become more direct and focused, valuing what I love more than ever and prioritizing honesty over 'nice guy' behavior.
Phil Liggett Unplugged: Safari Chaos, Giro Truth Bombs & The Art of Commentary
Q: What makes a commentator good, according to Phil Liggett?
A good commentator connects with viewers and the people, takes the audience into the action, maintains clarity, and avoids talking down to the audience, while keeping the excitement and storytelling alive throughout a race.
Phil Liggett Unplugged: Safari Chaos, Giro Truth Bombs & The Art of Commentary
Q: What early experiences shaped Phil Liggett's transition from racing to broadcasting?
Liggett explains that there was no formal school for commentary; he followed his nose, took opportunities as they came, and gradually built a diverse bag of experiences—from reporting races locally to landing roles with major networks, all while maintaining authenticity on-air.
1500 Watts & Zero Bullshit - Jack Ward Enters the Tool Shed
Q: What challenges do young riders face when turning pro in Europe, and how does the team address them?
Young riders face heightened expectations and pressure; the team addresses this with mentorship, media training, and a structured pathway that combines development with opportunities to race at higher levels when appropriate, plus psychological support.
