  • It took me several months to be sure…

As a longtime church of Christ member, who is still actively attends and affiliates with multiple congregations in multiple states, I gave this podcast a try for the last several months.

    Never seemed quite right.

I think it’s a parent that they’re Detroit affiliation kinda leads their cultural perspective. Or perhaps they are more united churches of Christ than restoration movement churches of Christ

I am a qualified speaker on the topic and have sent an emails and even an offer to have dis... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 154: Why church history is bigger than the New Testament (Dyron Daughrity)
Q: As a preacher and teacher, how do you balance teaching Scripture with teaching church history that lies beyond the New Testament?
By keeping Scripture front and center while using historical narratives to illuminate how believers throughout history have interpreted and applied biblical truths in diverse contexts, and by designing sermons and small-group studies that connect biblical text to the broader historical stream.
Episode 150: How a church from the 1920s is still ahead of its time in the 2020s (Harold Shank)
Q: Nashville was segregated in 1925. It was segregated all the way up into the 1960s. Are you saying that at Central Church of Christ, black Christians and black neighbors were able to fully integrate in the life of the congregation, even from the beginning in the 1920s?
From the available data, there appears to have been a deliberate approach to welcoming all people, though the complete scope of integration isn't fully documented. Central Church of Christ did host black and white congregants in practice and offered services that addressed a diverse community, illustrating a cautious but meaningful move toward inclusion.
Episode 149: How the church can make peace in a world that seems to want war (Tryce Prince)
Q: Why Romans 8, and how does that text illuminate the current cultural moment for the Church?
Romans 8 is used to challenge the idea that power comes from the flesh and to emphasize living by the Spirit, which leads to seeing others as neighbors and pursuing common ground rather than exploiting fear or difference.
Episode 149: How the church can make peace in a world that seems to want war (Tryce Prince)
Q: Could you tell us that story?
The guest describes how the National Cathedral prayer service and responses to refugees politicized mercy, which sparked the author's reflection on how Christians should engage politics with love rather than venom, ultimately guiding the essay's argument.
Episode 152: Who belongs in a national Church of Christ directory? (Dr. Suzie Macaluso)
Q: How have you all on the team worked through the implications of making these choices?
The team recognizes that publishing a directory for non-denominational identities within the Church of Christ context is complex and involves balancing inclusivity with clarity, given autonomy, varied practices, and evolving identities.
