I tried to stick around for several episodes but just left feeling stressed and overwhelmed. There are brief pockets of information often sourced from archeological record that I found fascinating, but these short interludes are often overshadowed with personal grievances and hot takes that end up consuming a large portion of the episodes. It feels as though the hosts are anticipating an argument from the other side that gets in the way of them sharing what they know with a willing audience, an... more
Like other reviewers, I wanted to like this podcast. However, 99% of their content exists to offer “hot takes” with little to no actual information. They also throw a lot of shade at other creators, claiming that pagan and Hellenic polytheist authors must be “peer-reviewed” in order to meet their rigorous standards. In no reality will a pagan/polytheist author ever receive “peer reviews”—reviews from who, exactly? Academia is not friendly to the occult. Most academics will never admit to being s... more
I like the hosts and information they share, but it’s a hard listen at first. The first 20 minutes is filled with banter and product plugging. Past the filler, I enjoy it and will likely continue to listen.
I like that they are aiming to provide historically grounded content.
I don’t like: (a) there is a lot of unrelated ramble. (b) I am skeptical of the attitude of “we’re going to tell you the real truth” combined with “we’re selling something.” (c) there is a consumerist or capitalist attitude to knowledge. As someone who works in higher education, I would never tell a stranger that they aren’t a paying student so it’s a burden for me to provide a book recommendation or answer a question. I gu... more
I really wanted to like this podcast, but it’s just not what I am looking for. They give the impression of being very unserious and for Chelsea in particular to be a practicing witch and self professed follower of the gods, she speaks without reverence or grace. Their most recent episode on May 5th, 2025 titled “The Truth About Connecting with the Greek Gods | A Guide to Ancient Greek Religion” was 15 minutes of the hosts talking about “other creators” charging a lot of money for foods and servi... more
