I was looking forward to a feminist take on the books, and their discussions on sexism in the books were quite validating. I also found their unconventional views on Iluvatar and Morgoth interesting. I tolerated their groans (although a mood-spoiler) when discussing names in the Silmarillion, because I know that the book is a difficult read. I wish that I had listened to this podcast when it was live because I would have written in all the time. Such interesting conversation! I listened to several episodes of another podcast that basically read the Silmarillion as scripture. As someone who doesn’t even read scripture as scripture, it felt very preachy to me. Looked forward to listening to each episode as I finished a chapter in the trilogy. Gives a modern viewpoint on the themes and characters in the books, but also just a fun podcast to use as a follow along if you’re getting stuck into the books.
I absolutely love this podcast! As someone who's read LotR, The Hobbit, and attempted but swiftly gave up on The Silmarillion; seen and loved the LotR movies and... saw some of the Hobbit ones 👀👀... y'all, this podcast had me Cracking Up at so many points, but also they bring up a lot of great points that upset The Boys.
