  • Disappointing

I was looking forward to a feminist take on the books, and their discussions on sexism in the books were quite validating. I also found their unconventional views on Iluvatar and Morgoth interesting. I tolerated their groans (although a mood-spoiler) when discussing names in the Silmarillion, because I know that the book is a difficult read. But I stopped listening when it became clear that at least two of the hosts found the book tormenting. All that bashing on Tolkien because of his love of na... more

  • Fascinating conversation

I wish that I had listened to this podcast when it was live because I would have written in all the time. Such interesting conversation! I listened to several episodes of another podcast that basically read the Silmarillion as scripture. As someone who doesn’t even read scripture as scripture, it felt very preachy to me. • A fun book club vibe for LOTR fans

Looked forward to listening to each episode as I finished a chapter in the trilogy. Gives a modern viewpoint on the themes and characters in the books, but also just a fun podcast to use as a follow along if you’re getting stuck into the books.

  • Good balance of funny & snark

I absolutely love this podcast! As someone who's read LotR, The Hobbit, and attempted but swiftly gave up on The Silmarillion; seen and loved the LotR movies and... saw some of the Hobbit ones 👀👀... y'all, this podcast had me Cracking Up at so many points, but also they bring up a lot of great points that upset The Boys. Which I can appreciate – Tolkien is a good writer and tells a detailed and good story, BUT the hosts do a great job of not just putting him on a pedestal. It feels like I'm si... more
