  • Felix Salmon is so confidently wrong

Good luck finding a podcast host more annoying or prone to bad takes than Felix Salmon. Remember when he claimed the banking sector was 'fine' in 2007? Or when he predicted the death of the stock market in 2011? He even pushed a shaky $400 billion fraud story in 2021. Why do people still listen to someone who is so confidently wrong, so often?

  • Idk how (or why?) Elizabeth does it

Felix is so rude to Elizabeth it genuinely distracts from his points. I wish Emily would call him on it once as it makes for a much poorer discussion. Recent example, talking about safety perception in the UEA, he was so dismissive of Elizabeth’s points, all over the place in his arguments in order to do so. Emily refused to “pick a side” 🙄 but then brings up NYC as a comparison, which Felix takes as validation, and Elizabeth rightly points out is a poor comparison, too broad an umbrella of “fi... more

  • Love it Except…

Love this podcast but hard disagree on Davos being back. It is just bloviating billionaires doing nothing for humanity and flying in hookers for parties in their private jets. It’s been pathetic for years and Trump’s appearance is the final death knell. But Mark Carney is definitely in the spotlight for good reason and is bringing other middle sized countries back!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Money Talks: The Business of Black Markets
Q: If I put you in charge of America for a few weeks, what would be the main sort of policy response that you would try and implement in order to reduce the amount of corruption in this country?
It's all about changing the incentives, giving people the pay that they deserve. Making sure that civil servants and law enforcement are paid well and that there is no incentive there for them to turn to the black market.
Money Talks: The Business of Black Markets
Q: Would it be fair to say that the black and gray markets are smaller than in the US and they are globally or not so much?
No, we are the number one consumer of drugs in the world. Our drug business here in the United States alone brings in $150 billion a year.
Money Talks: The Business of Black Markets
Q: Mariana, tell us, who are you? What do you do? And most importantly, what is your podcast?
I have been covering black markets for about 20 years now. I have a show on National Geographic called Trafficked with Mariana van Zeller. And I recently launched a podcast called The Hidden Third.
100 More Years of Google
Q: What are the pros and cons of doing a century bond though specifically?
When you do a bond, you are selling your cash flows to bond investors, and the attractiveness of that cash flow duration can attract certain investment types, with varying market demands.
Money Talks: Don't Be Evil-ish
Q: What do you see happening in the AI field for the next couple of years?
Wu notes the big unanswered question is whether AI will end up challenging Big Tech or reinforcing it, as major companies invest heavily in AI and determine its future direction.
