  • Eat Real Food

Dr Steve explains in plain English what our bodies do with what we put in our mouths. I’m grateful for the education! While it may sound expensive to source from local farmers and farm stands, I suspect that a family of 4 would probably spend less money when not buying food in boxes, bottles, bags and cans. It would be interesting to see a cost analysis?

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

188: Dr Anthony Chaffee, How a Carnivore Diet Impacts Health
Q: What would you tell a physician who is still practicing the old medical model and doesn't understand how nutrition can drive disease outcomes?
Emphasize the Hippocratic principle that food can be medicine and point to historical and contemporary evidence showing how medical outcomes shift when diets shift toward animal-based nutrition, while acknowledging the need for individualized care and careful monitorings, such as in cases of autoimmune disease where removing plant lectins may reduce immune activation.
188: Dr Anthony Chaffee, How a Carnivore Diet Impacts Health
Q: So just kind of tell us, why do you think that the carnivore diet is actually species-specific for the human diet?
It's the diet we've been eating the longest; humans evolved as apex predators with tool use and meat-based intake since the Ice Age, which shaped our biology more than plant-based diets. The data suggest that a meat-centered approach aligns with our evolutionary biology and provides a framework for reversing certain chronic diseases through nutrient-dense animal foods.
184: Complete Carnivore with Jenny Mitich
Q: What role does testing play in sustainable carnivore transitions?
Testing is central. Knowing fasting insulin, fasting glucose, triglycerides, HDL, and inflammatory markers helps people quantify progress and adjust their approach. The book includes how to order labs and interpret results to stay on track toward metabolic health.
184: Complete Carnivore with Jenny Mitich
Q: What makes your book different from other carnivore books?
It isn't just a cookbook; it's an in-depth, evidence-focused guide—an encyclopedia for the carnivore diet. It emphasizes troubleshooting, monitoring progress with labs and trackers, and practical steps that readers can implement to achieve better metabolic health.
184: Complete Carnivore with Jenny Mitich
Q: For listeners who don't know you, what led you to carnivore in the first place?
I started after watching my husband lose a lot of weight on keto and water fasting; I initially resisted carnivore, but after seeing his results and the data, I decided to try it myself. The weight fell off, glucose improved dramatically, and I eventually committed to the diet for several years, documenting what happened and sharing practical insights.
