  • Yuck

Most episodes deal with American 55 plus communities. I find this concept grotesque, with a whole industry grown up around Americans with completely separate lives. I realise that’s what so many older Americans want, but it makes for unpleasant listening to me.

But having said that, I found the episode of 20 January 2021 about a tiny house village fascinating.

The Leadership Crisis in Senior Living: Burnout, Hiring, Culture & Retention with Chris Heinz
Q: What should a candidate focus on to improve their chances in a sales or executive director role?
Stop selling mere facts and features; highlight actual accomplishments and be prepared to have honest conversations with leadership about ways to improve the situation, showing concrete examples and outcomes.
Reinventing Life Enrichment in Senior Living
Q: What does the future of senior living look like to you?
A future where tech back-end automation frees staff to spend more time with residents, and communities function like college campuses with vibrant, cross-age interactions and deeply personalized experiences.
Reinventing Life Enrichment in Senior Living
Q: What are the differences between active living and memory care in terms of life enrichment, and how do you personalize experiences?
We operate across four levels (active adult, independent living, assisted living, memory care) and focus on person-first programming, removing ageist assumptions, and using tools like LifeLoop to tailor activities to individual likes, dislikes, and social needs.
Reinventing Life Enrichment in Senior Living
Q: How do you define resident experience across your communities?
It starts from the first point of contact and continues through every touchpoint, with every staff member contributing to a positive, home-like experience and life enrichment being everyone's job.
The Future of Senior Living Finance
Q: What criteria do you look for before financing a senior living community?
Experience in the space, local market knowledge, and a capable, incentivized management team are essential. Operators should present a concise business plan, solid financials, and a realistic strategy for where funding will come from and how it will be repaid. The underwriting then examines personal finances, regional factors, and property appraisal before moving to documentation, typically taking 45 to 60 days if prepared.
