  • So. Many. Men.

Sometimes the episodes are interesting, but I have to scroll waaaaaaaaay too long to find an episode interviewing a woman.

  • Very worthwhile

I really like this podcast. Excellent guests and well thought out questions explore a wider array of topics. Concise and not too chatty. scripted questions that the speaker is obviously prepared for (which is fine) however some follow up questions for particular answers during the interview might add another dimension

  • Pass

I only listened to one (because of the profoundly dumb takes) so my sample size is limited. But I was surprised by the surface level, lazy tropes disguised as “investigate reporting”. I didn’t feel like they were trying to provide facts and teach listeners anything, but rather shove a premeditated agenda disguised as Q&A. There are many better options out there.

The Religious Cult Behind North Korea’s Power (#303)
Q: John, what are the three takeaways for understanding North Korea today?
The first is that NK is a religious society; the second is that the regime is not likely to disappear soon; the third highlights the power of religious belief in legitimating leadership and control.
The Religious Cult Behind North Korea’s Power (#303)
Q: You call your book Korean Messiah. Why? And how did he get other people to see him that way?
Cheng compares Kim Il-sung to a political and spiritual messiah, describing how the leader positioned himself as both liberator and transcendent figure, embedding a cosmology that makes loyalty and devotion part of daily life.
The Religious Cult Behind North Korea’s Power (#303)
Q: John, what do most people misunderstand about North Korea? We call it communist, but is it?
The guest explains that while there are communist elements, the regime is fundamentally organized as a religious society centered on the worship of the Kim dynasty, with rituals, doctrine, and a governance framework that resemble a state religion more than a purely political system.
Former Secretary of Energy - Why Clean Energy Alone Won’t Keep the Lights On (#304)
Q: Secretary Moniz, what are the three takeaways you'd like to leave the audience with today?
The three takeaways are: (1) focus on a single conversation that combines energy development with security, climate, and equity; (2) electricity will be central and increasingly important, but it won't constitute the majority of energy use for a long time because fuels will continue to play a major role; (3) recognize regional differences and tailor solutions to local contexts across the world and within the United States.
Why America May Not Be Ready for the Wars of the Future (#302)
Q: Christine, what are your 3 Takeaways?
First, that Iran may still have components of a nuclear program after the war ends and should be addressed through negotiated settlement. Second, that there is no longer a bilateral arms control treaty with Russia and that China is expanding its arsenal, demanding new thinking. Third, that the U.S. bears global responsibilities but must maintain credibility with allies to stay safe.
