  • Interesting & Helpful

Have listened to the first two episodes and both were super engaging. I find it really helpful to hear the different types of workouts both Bechdel and Duffy have done and still do, but also their mental space around choosing them. Sebastian seems to be a great listener and asks astute questions based on the flow of conversation. This is now a weekly listen for me!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Hanif Abdurraqib Runs the Memory Palace
Q: How do you approach writing and memory when not outlining ahead of time?
He says he starts from memory and emotional stakes, using memory as the engine to build a piece that allows others to step into the experience without prescribing his exact love for it; the work serves as a runway for readers to find their own connections.
Hanif Abdurraqib Runs the Memory Palace
Q: What is going on in your mind as you run?
The guest explains that the mind often crafts a moving film while running, shifting from planning to reflection, and that the environment and a routine route invite new thoughts and memories; external stimuli and internal reflections weave together to shape the experience.
Dano Cerny Hikes to the Beat
Q: We like to start by just asking you about your most recent workout, what you did and how it went.
I kicked off with a morning hike of significant incline, followed by some gym work later in the day, balancing energy output with recovery and trying to keep focus during the workday.
R.O. Kwon’s Midnight Climbs
Q: Can you think of a time when exercise helped you through something especially difficult in your life?
RO. Kwon describes a period of severe panic attacks linked to her writing project, and how returning to climbing and lifting provided concrete proof of capability, helping her regain confidence and manage anxiety.
Soman Chainani Gets Deadlift Drunk
Q: What was your most recent workout and how did it go?
He described tennis four to five mornings a week, plus a heavy training routine with a trainer that included deadlifts, pull-ups, ski machine, inverted rows, and hanging leg raises, with varying schedules across New York and St. Louis.
