  • Long time valley veteran

The best thing about this podcast is they know the host and he knows them. Scott has been talking about the Valley as long as I can remember. He doesn’t just let the industry be full of themselves. He will challenge their hypotheses and business models and they in turn treat him as an equal.

  • Interesting info tho leas interrupting please

I enjoy SHR. I like to hear about new companies and trends in tech.

However, having the host repeatedly interrupt the guest (especially when the guest is a woman) and interrupting to talk more about himself or his own experiences, takes away from the show every time, for me. Surely you can do better.

  • Informative and Entertaining

Manages to provide real insight into technology innovation, venture capital, and current leadership in Silicon Valley while also being, frankly, fun.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

PR Yu: Ethical Capital at Speed
Q: What keeps you invested in a portfolio company through tough times?
Early conviction, the potential to help a large share of patients or users, a strong team, and the belief that the journey will be worth it despite ups and downs.
PR Yu: Ethical Capital at Speed
Q: How do you reconcile speed with responsible investing, especially in hardware and defense-related technologies?
Speed is a function of focus and disciplined decision-making; even for hardware or defense-adjacent ventures, moving quickly is acceptable when driven by a clear mission, proper governance, and a commitment not to extract value at the expense of the founders or society.
PR Yu: Ethical Capital at Speed
Q: Define that ethical capital concept in one sentence.
Ethical capital is capital leveraged to do good, support founders, and avoid activities that harm society, while speed is used to focus and serve portfolio companies efficiently.
Leah Solivan: Muscle of Conviction
Q: How can founders navigate the venture capital system to gain leverage?
Founders should educate themselves about how investors allocate attention and dollars, map out who in their network might back them in the next round, and build relationships with funds that align with their long-term trajectory, while focusing on strong unit economics and a clear path to growth.
Jack Leeney of 7GC: Why IPOs Are Optional Now
Q: What are some of the biggest misconceptions founders have about going public?
Founders may overestimate the necessity of an IPO for liquidity and growth, while in reality, many high-quality private companies can create substantial value through strategic sales or selective fundraising; private markets can sometimes offer more control and range of exit options than a public listing.
