  • Great Advice on Communication

Loved the discussion on good communication! This applies to so many areas of life. Leading the conversation and being two steps ahead, connecting with others sooner than later, and not waiting for someone else to lead. Biggest takeaway: small mindset change…let clients know what has been accomplished and how that creates client confidence and the trickle effect of how that helps communication among others involved.

Fail Forward and Show Up Consistently: The Culture Playbook from a Second-Generation Owner
Q: What are three traditions or practices you would recommend to jumpstart culture in a growing organization?
Start with bite-sized implementations, begin with quarterly initiatives, and build routines that are sustainable, such as simple team recognitions, field visits, and small on-site gestures that demonstrate care. Also ensure leaders are engaged consistently and welcome ongoing input from the team to keep improving.
ACE Coaches Roundtable: Mow Money, Less Problems by Mastering your Finances
Q: Jim, Chris, can you talk about some of the things that we're doing largely around the larger conferences and then specifically jumping into the events of all of our peer group meetings and the program that we're doing there?
We're focusing on expanding ACE offerings, leveraging conferences to highlight the value of financial health, and scaling peer group activities to onboard more members with practical KPI dashboards and live financials, to help members improve profitability and plan for growth or transitions.
Transparency, Liquidity, and Bankers – How to Take Control of your Business' Value
Q: What advice do you have for owners who want to improve financial literacy within their team?
Lead by example, start with one or two key financial metrics that resonate with the team (gross margin, hours, etc.), keep regular cadence, and make dashboards accessible so everyone understands how their actions impact financial health.
Transparency, Liquidity, and Bankers – How to Take Control of your Business' Value
Q: Why is understanding valuation important even if you don't plan to sell soon?
Valuation informs lending discussions, guides strategic planning, and serves as currency for acquisitions or equity sharing with employees, making it a vital tool for long-term planning and decision making.
Transparency, Liquidity, and Bankers – How to Take Control of your Business' Value
Q: Can you describe the financial health assessment process and what you got out of it?
Jonathan explains that the assessments dive into cash flow, collections, payables, and scheduling, helping the company anticipate and manage growth, identify blind spots, and align banking relationships with liquidity strategies.
