  • Public lands discussion

Just across the border, Idahoans don’t seem to have the same sentiment about transferring lands to the state. Polls show a majority of Idahoans reject the idea due to cost of management and the constitutional obligation Idaho would have to sell the land to maximize profit. I’m curious why according to the poll you stated, the majority in Utah support the transfer of lands, even electing such strong proponents for this view, including the Utah governor, reps and senators. Our state reps and gover... more

  • Ever episode

    Overrated !!!

The host tends to try to lead up to asking the person a question by telling them what it is he wants them to answer in so much detail and then answers the question before he lets the person have a chance to speak. Also, then continues on to say “talk about it.”

He says, “talk about it”so many times it is irritating!

I have listened to this podcast over many year but can no long.

    No longer a suscriber.

  • Need to fix Podcast feed

Update: it seems like the issues I described have been improved. Thank you!

I love Radio West, It’s very well produced and engaging. However, this podcast feed has some issues. The episodes appear and disappear at random. I save them to my feed and then they get taken off. PLEASE fix these issues! I know the episodes are on their website, but it’s much more convenient to have them on Apple podcasts.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

You Won't Find Every Word in the Dictionary. Here's Why.
Q: But what is a lexicographer?
A lexicographer is the person who writes dictionary definitions, a role that blends linguistics research with careful evidence gathering from citations and usage across many sources; it is labor-intensive and requires editor collaboration to craft clear, concise definitions.
The True History of the American Gunfighter
Q: Where does Wyatt Earp fit within the gunfighter myth and reality?
Earp is presented as the standout, more morally complex figure who managed to balance law enforcement with personal limits, illustrating how legends can be built around someone who is both admirable and flawed.
McKay Coppins' Year as a Degenerate Gambler
Q: What concerns did you have about the broader societal impact of this gambling expansion?
There is a tension between allowing vice to exist for personal freedom and protecting society from addiction; the growth of online gambling raises questions about youth exposure, advertising regulation, and cultural shifts that undermine traditional moral expectations.
McKay Coppins' Year as a Degenerate Gambler
Q: How did the shift from app-based betting to immersive in-person gambling change your experience?
In-person gambling in places like Las Vegas created social interactions and a sense of community, contrasting with the solitary, addictive pull of mobile apps and reinforcing the idea that containment and environmental factors shape gambling behavior.
McKay Coppins' Year as a Degenerate Gambler
Q: What did Nate Silver teach you about the betting economy and how to manage expectations?
Silver stressed that most bettors never win big; even champions aim to break even, and the way to survive is to follow disciplined rules, shop lines across multiple sportsbooks, and treat betting as an edge-exploitation exercise rather than a adrenaline-driven gamble.
