  • How the mighty have fallen

This used to be one of my favorite shows. NPR used to let the “Public” call in on this show, Diane Rehem, TOTN etc all had the “P” involved. That’s when it stopped being national public radio and just became national liberal radio. The episode about “controversial new mining practices in Utah” is laughably ridiculous it’s just gross when rich entitled libs talk ably salt of the earth “folks” and try to use them to further their political agenda. Stop indoctrinating propagandizing and preaching. ... more

  • Public lands discussion

Just across the border, Idahoans don’t seem to have the same sentiment about transferring lands to the state. Polls show a majority of Idahoans reject the idea due to cost of management and the constitutional obligation Idaho would have to sell the land to maximize profit. I’m curious why according to the poll you stated, the majority in Utah support the transfer of lands, even electing such strong proponents for this view, including the Utah governor, reps and senators. Our state reps and gover... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Bill Gifford Says Don’t Avoid the Heat. Harness It.
Q: What surprised you most about heat in human evolution and culture?
The cultural universality of heat rituals—from saunas to sweat lodges—along with the implication that heat exposure may have shaped evolutionary strategies like endurance hunting and social bonding.
Bill Gifford Says Don’t Avoid the Heat. Harness It.
Q: What does the evidence say about heat and heart health or mortality risks?
In Finland and similar contexts, regular sauna use is associated with reduced heart attack and stroke risk and all-cause mortality, with mechanisms tied to exercise-like heart-rate increases and improved skin blood flow, though establishing causality remains complex.
Bill Gifford Says Don’t Avoid the Heat. Harness It.
Q: Tell us about Hottern Hell 100 and what you hoped to learn from riding it.
I signed up for the 164-kilometer ride in Texas to test whether theoretical physiology about heat adaptation translates to real-world athletic performance, hoping to see if heat-tolerance can help an average person perform better in extreme conditions.
What Do Nate Blouin’s Old Social Media Posts Mean for State Democrats?
Q: How did you react to reading those really ugly things that he said?
The response was shock and disappointment, framed by personal relationships, and emphasized that while the comments were from years ago, they have real consequences and must be weighed against accountability and redemption.
What Will It Take to Make Great Salt Lake Great Again?
Q: What is the biggest obstacle to turning a social-media push or a budget line item into real water inflow to the lake?
The process involves a complex, multi-jurisdictional system of dams, pipelines, and legal frameworks that require active cooperation among federal managers, state agencies, and cross-border partners; money alone does not move water without the necessary infrastructure and policy changes.
