Tradition is a buzzword in confessional polemics: Protestants (supposedly) say Scripture only, while Catholics and Orthodox (supposedly) say Scripture-and-Tradition without hierarchical triage between them. Of course, it has never been that simple! L... more
You foolish person! I Corinthians 15 isn't the place to come for an instruction manual, but for a redirection toward the one who was raised from the dead for the glory of God. In this episode Dad and I talk through what is—and isn't—the subject matte... more

As a retired Episcopal priest, I now have time to search for engaging theological and biblical scholarship. I find the Queen of the Sciences podcasts and Sarah Hinlicky Wilson’s books most stimulating and thoughtful. Thank you!
As someone who turned to religion (and the Lutheran tradition) late in life— and with a doctorate in philosophy (in the continental tradition) in tow— this show has been a balm to my unfounded (if very typical) worry that faith was a matter of giving up on critical thinking. This show promotes philosophically informed, critically engaged thinking in the tradition of Lutheranism. It is helping me feel at home in this tradition while also clarifying some of its most difficult conundrums. Paul can ... more
Sarah and Paul consistently produce compelling content with each conversation. Each episode is replete with the kind of rich theology, self-effacing humor, friendly rivalry and love for holy scripture which whets one’s appetite to nurture faith seeking understanding. Even for those who may differ, there is respectful, informed and open dialogue which can lead to surprising outcomes.
I am embarrassed to say that despite and advanced degree and decades of church ministry, I still struggle to think through some fundamental ideas of faith and doctrine. Queen of the Sciences has been one of the best classrooms to tighten my thinking in recent years. The discussion is stimulating and frequently deep. Critical ideas are treated fairly and the hosts rarely resort to cheap polemics you find on other theology podcasts.
The level of discourse is unmatched in any other theological podcast. Nowhere else will you get Ellul, Augustine, Nazianzen, Luther, Robert Jenson, Foucault, Heidegger, Hegel, incisive social commentary, and all with such a central concern for the gospel of Jesus Christ and the Scriptures. Can’t recommend this show enough. The Hinlickys are brilliant.
