  • Great podcast, but …

I have binged the first two seasons of Proof and am currently listening to the third. I love the investigative reporting and the different leads they delve into. However, the fact that Jacinda’s vocal fry is extremely distracting is the reason I’ve only rated it 4 stars. I honestly would have quit this podcast long ago if the content wasn’t so compelling. It’s also the reason I hesitate to recommend it to my friends, or if I do, it’s with a caveat. About 10% of the time I don’t hear it, so hope... more

  • Interesting but irritating

The content is interesting but the narrators’ voices are like nails on a chalk board.

  • Absolute must-listen podcast

Incredibly important podcast that not only delves into wrongful convictions cases and convincingly demonstrates their injustice, but also uncovers the weaknesses in the judicial system. Very well-explained, with an impressive track record of digging up information, and making connections others didn’t see. Susan, Jacinda and Kevin are very pleasant hosts to listen to, striking the right balance between care, seriousness and humor (in their sidebars). I take my hat off to them for dedicating the... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Murder at the Bike Shop | Sidebar 9
Q: How do you convince a jury that false confessions happen despite seemingly convincing evidence?
Educating the court about the psychology of false confessions, the research consensus, and exoneration data helps, but the key is presenting credible, appellate-level analyses and showing how confessions can be coerced or misunderstood by juries.
Murder at the Bike Shop | Sidebar 9
Q: Are there any laws or rules about how long someone can be interrogated or how long between interrogations?
There is no universal rule across the United States; rules vary by jurisdiction, making lengthy interrogations without a break more a matter of jurisdictional differences rather than a standardized limit.
Murder at the Bike Shop | Sidebar Q&A
Q: Was there hard evidence that a large amount of cash was stashed on the premises?
The hosts note that there was an early report about bank bags with money, but subsequent interviews and records cast doubt on the persistence of that claim, suggesting inconsistent documentation over time.
Murder at the Bike Shop | Sidebar Q&A
Q: Could DNA under Earl's fingernails help identify the killer through genetic genealogy?
The DNA was a partial profile that could exclude some individuals but was not enough to definitively identify a suspect through genealogy; the hosts explain the limitations and what would be needed for genealogy to be informative.
Murder at the Bike Shop | Sidebar Q&A
Q: The money bags and their contents—were they known to exist in media, and what happened to them?
Articles initially reported finding the money bag and its contents, but later coverage described the bags as stolen; the discrepancy is attributed to inconsistent reporting and poor record-keeping within the cold case team.
