  • Good cases, poor pacing

I love investigative journalism. The cases they choose are compelling but the pacing is tedious. If they covered more material each episode instead of alluding to something they are going to cover in future episodes again and again it would be much more engaging. I find myself frustrated each episode. The editing also leaves large silent gaps at times. During several episodes, I’ve actually gone to check my phone because I thought the podcast stopped playing, but it was just a long, silent pause... more

  • Love the Podcast

    Great Podcast.

I do have a question though I’m still listening to the episode so you may make it clear but I’ve been arrested at hotels many times (I used to be bad) I may have been on probation however regardles, I’ve tried many times to not let police in.. infact I’m pretty certain every time I would have said they cannot come in and they always said that the hotel gave them permission or something to the affect of me not having that right because it was a hotel for one reason or another, I b... more

I know I’m late on this but isn’t it odd that 2 random people killed happened to be in drug trade ? Maybe 2 random things could have happened at once … the guys were there for a drug deal (why else would Brian blow pff his friends ) and the Serial Killer happened to stumble across them .

I like the show but the Monday morning quarterbacking on trial counsel ineffectiveness is tough. Hosts: please list all jury trials where you were lead counsel and I’ll give you more credibility

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

S8 Ep7: S8, The State v. Patricia Rorrer - Episode 4 - Killing Field
Q: What does this mean for the case timeline and potential conclusions about the crime?
If the timeline shifts from February to mid-March, it changes the context of when events occurred, which can impact how investigators interpret motive, opportunity, and the sequence of actions in the case.
S8 Ep7: S8, The State v. Patricia Rorrer - Episode 4 - Killing Field
Q: How does weather data influence blowfly activity and the death timeline?
Snow cover and low temperatures likely suppressed insect activity, meaning the bodies could have been outside for longer or shorter than initially thought, depending on which data sets are used to model insect development.
S8 Ep7: S8, The State v. Patricia Rorrer - Episode 4 - Killing Field
Q: What is the discrepancy in the original entomology report and what does the new analysis say?
Dr. Rivers details that the original analysis used non-standard methods and inappropriate temperature data, leading to a substantially different estimate of the postmortem interval, which he recalculates to be closer to March rather than mid-February.
TJ Weekly - Harry Milman
Q: Do you think there should be a regulatory body for forensic science, like an FDA for forensics, to oversee methods and standards?
Milman argues for increased peer review and education rather than creating a new regulatory agency, highlighting ongoing professional training for judges, lawyers, and jurors, and better public information about forensic limitations.
TJ Weekly - Harry Milman
Q: What do you think is the most commonly misused forensic evidence in the criminal justice system?
He identifies eyewitness identification as the most error-prone form of evidence, followed by challenging areas like fingerprint and bloodstain pattern analysis, emphasizing the need for corroboration and better juror education.
