  • Janet

Every follow up just seems like Janet is upset and offended about something. Maybe she isn’t cut out for this. It is exhausting to listen to her have a meltdown for 20 minutes every week.

  • All for promo

I started listening at the very beginning and I believed in bob. Then I was a bit put off by the west Memphis three investigation. He said it was for the victims but he was proving the three that are out are Vincent fore the sake of a possible hbo show. The pandemic hit and he just quit the case after the accused died when he had been saying it was for her mom who would not want her daughter as the killer of record when not true. I felt sad as mother that it was dropped. Then came the intervi... more

  • Better Every Season

I’ve been listening to this podcast for several years now, and I’ve even gone back to listen to previous seasons. Every year, the production gets better, but we shouldn’t just judge this podcast on production. Several people are out of jail because of this podcast. Several more have their cases being helped by the Innocence Project. Bob Ruff isnt just a podcaster. He’s an actual Justice Warrior who gets results, and we as an audience get to listen in real time as he does so.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

S18 Ep21: Follow-Up S18: E21
Q: Why do juries sometimes misinterpret self-defense in long-term abuse cases, and how can understanding this help future cases?
Juries often expect imminent, clear threats; abuse dynamics create delayed or non-imminent danger. Education on coercive control and the psychology of leaving can help juries better recognize the context and justify self-defense as a legitimate response under prolonged threat.
S18 Ep21: Follow-Up S18: E21
Q: What can listeners do to better support someone in an abusive relationship without triggering further harm?
Listeners should prioritize nonjudgmental support, encourage connecting with shelters and professionals, and avoid blaming survivors. Offering practical help (pets, clothing, safe housing) and maintaining open lines of communication can empower someone to seek safety while respecting their autonomy.
S18 Ep22: Follow-Up S18: E22
Q: What makes Time of Death significant to the case in Beth Braden's podcast?
Time of Death is central because it shapes the timeline of events and can make suspects appear guilty or innocent depending on when the deaths actually occurred; misdating the death can undermine the entire prosecution narrative.
S18: Throwback Thursday: Gilbert King - Bone Valley
Q: What was the turning point that shifted the project from a standard case feature to a full narrative podcast?
Reading the trial transcript and noticing witness contradictions convinced them to pursue a deeper, more narrative approach rather than a conventional journalism piece.
S18: Throwback Thursday: Gilbert King - Bone Valley
Q: How did your approach to Bone Valley differ from traditional crime reporting?
Gilbert explains that the podcast adopted a narrative nonfiction style, balancing rigorous reporting with an authoritative, story-driven structure to engage listeners without sacrificing accuracy.
