  • Listening to a Man explain that women are “complex creatures”

I was looking for a new podcast and started with the episode of symptoms in the first 20 weeks.

Middle of the episode, a male doctor is saying “women are very complex creatures. And when you put them in situations where they don’t feel well….”. Complex creatures? Shove off. You try being pregnant.

  • Great resource!

I really enjoy listening to this podcast, however I do prefer the boob group podcast they do. I imagine this is because, while I am American, I live in the UK and would love a slightly more international approach to these subjects. I would love to recommend these podcasts to friends here but I think many are inapplicable to UK medical care. For example, the hospital bag episode would be much different in the UK, as with socialized health care we are told to bring our own diapers, blankets, mater... more

  • Waste of time

Yak yak yak. A lot of talking without saying anything of value. I tried 2 episodes, one on the Bradley Method and another on a different birthing method, I cannot remember the name…They were basically advertisements for the methods without actually explaining how to do them.

I like the topics covered and the friendly hosts. But hate the stupid child reading a disclaimer at the end of the episode. Very infantilising!

Also there are so many ads. Skip to 9-10 mins in for actual content.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Childbirth Preparation Methods: Hypnobabies
Q: When should a pregnant person start Hypnobabies classes?
Most women sign up between 28 and 32 weeks, but it's possible to start earlier as long as there is time to complete the program before birth and maintain daily practice.
Childbirth Preparation Methods: Hypnobabies
Q: How involved should partners be in the classes?
Partners should participate actively, read the materials, and practice scripts at home to build bonding and support for the mom, including live birth rehearsals.
Childbirth Preparation Methods: Hypnobabies
Q: What is the big difference between Hypnobabies and hypnobirthing?
Hypnobabies uses a stronger emphasis on medical hypnotic anesthesia techniques and the Eyes Open approach, with a focus on belief systems and self-hypnosis that aims for shorter, more comfortable births with fewer interventions.
Pregnancy Symptoms: The Last 20 Weeks
Q: How can someone distinguish Braxton Hicks from real labor?
Braxton Hicks contractions are practice contractions that are not painful and do not dilate the cervix; if contractions are frequent (more than five per hour) and painful, contact a clinician.
Pregnancy Symptoms: The Last 20 Weeks
Q: What are effective ways to manage sleepless nights in the last 20 weeks?
Use pillows to support the body and find a comfortable side-sleep position, consider a reclined or elevated setup if needed, and maintain general sleep hygiene; in some cases, prenatal massage or gentle exercise can help.
