Philosophiraga is an audio presentation in the Well-Red Mage family of content. Each episode, I look at a big idea from the history of philosophy and discuss how it relates to the world of video games. It's sort of like an introductory philosophy course mashed up with gaming culture, which (I like to think) makes it a bit more interesting. If you've already studied philosophy, you're unlikely to l... more

If reality were just a dream, how could we tell? Are tables perfect? Why bother waking up a fish? Why did a dictionary maker kick a rock?
All these questions and more will be... maybe answered, or maybe just alluded to, in this episode on Bishop Ber... more
What's even real anyway, dude? Like, does the world even exist, yo?
These, albeit perhaps not phrased in quite the same way, are big questions in philosophy, and this episode is an introduction to ontology: the study of being and existence. Stay tun... more
Logic is weird and fuzzy. Fortunately, understanding logical fallacies can help us to cut through some of the fuzziness... as long as we're careful how we use them. This episode is an introduction to a few useful fallacies, illuminated with examples ... more
It's a special interview episode: my guest is none other than my other half, Hannah!
We discuss her gaming history, why she wants her games to be colourful and not boring, and how she feels about philosophy. Her views on philosophy might not be what... more
It's another episode of Philosophiraga, the bite-sized deep-dive into video games and philosophy.
This time, we're looking at empiricism: the view that we know stuff through experience, and no other way. Phoenix Wright and co will help us to think a... more
In this episode of Philosophiraga, the gaming and philosophy podcast, we take a look at rationalism. How can we know things without experiencing them? Rationalism has a few suggestions.

In this... slightly out-of-schedule episode of Philosophiraga, we take a look at something that happened in World of Warcraft many years ago, and discuss whether it's relevant to things happening in the real world today.

Moses Norton, the Well-Red Mage himself, is my guest for this interview episode of Philosophiraga. We talk right and wrong, Batman, truffle oil, parenthood, the difference between academic philosophy and just sort of doing philosophy out in the world... more
Video games are such a powerful form of media! They give us the opportunity to basically live stories through a character's eyes, and that's incredible. Sadly, video games still often get the side-eye from idiot politicians and other non-gamer types who have no idea what they're talking about. It's hard to shake stereotypes...
That's why brilliant podcasts like Philosophiraga (this needs to be an official spell in the next Final Fantasy game) are so freaking important! Chris utilizes a superbly... more
Amazing podcast, amazing caster. Insightful and a joy to listen to.
This podcast covers an idea that many would think is easy, but would be terribly boring if attempted. Chris brings a philosophical topic and ties it into a video game in ways that make sense and keep the topics open for further discussion. His episode on Undertale intrigued me enough to finally pick it up, and it is now easily one of my favorite games that I've played. The length is perfect and he sounds relaxed and personable in his element(s). I'm normally not a fan of podcasts recorded by an... more
I just had to binge through every episode after starting Philosophiraga this afternoon. Chris does a great job of keeping it short and to the point while also making you really think about each topic. I found myself discussing some of the philosophical questions with my wife, and it is really fun to see how they relate to some of your favorite games as well.
Really excellent new podcast exploring philosophical themes in video games! Informative, well researched and really, really listenable!
Video games are a fantastic medium for exploring philosophical concepts, but many outlets focus their coverage on only a practical review of the mechanics. Having a podcast that explores the deeper themes of games is a fantastic idea. The episode length helps accessibility for busy listeners and the fact that each episode focuses on one game provides good structure and seeing a game you enjoy in the episode title helps you get excited to jump in. The Sometimes Vaguely Philosophical Mage has a vo... more
Really fun and clear introduction to philosophy, explaining how video games can illustrate perennial topics and questions and maybe even give a new and unique perspective on them. Easy to get into, entertaining, thought-provoking!
Bright, intelligent and educational chat with some very philosophical folk! I thought so hard I strained my brain!
Examining video games through the lens of philosophical theory is such a good idea, I'm shocked nobody thought of it first. Quick bite length, the host's cool, calm delivery and complex ideas distilled into easy to understand arguments make this an easy and fascinating listen. Highly recommended.
A great blend of topics that co-exist under our noses all the time with out our realizing it! Can’t wait for more - keep them coming Chris!
I've only listened to the first module and I'm already hooked! I loved how you started with morality as the first topic. This podcast gives a very brief and entertaining introduction into philosophical theories and ties them to various games, making them easily accessible to the public. As a writer, I feel it's important to think about the morality of the characters you write about. I, for one, will be thinking very long and hard about that for days on end, so thanks for the inspiration!

Every time I think the sheer awesomeness of the TWRM crew has hit It's peak, it throws me another surprising curve ball.
Is Philosophiraga hosted by a brain in a vat? In a world where everything is absolutely subjective, this show is personally the factually best subjectively objectively good video games and philosophy pod. Truth, maybe.
It’s awesome to see the exploration of philosophy through a lens of gaming.
A trained legion of monkeys fiddling with audio equipment could not produce a philosophy and gaming podcast of this quality, no matter how many millions of years they worked at it!
