  • Too many ads

I love listening to Phil Matier and his incisive analysis of San Francisco politics. Miss him in SF Chronicle. This program is great and an adequate substitution for what’s missing in the print media.

  • Content good - too many commercials

Content is good but the commercials before and after are longer than actual content and it repeats same ads. Probably would listen if on ad but not 4 to 6- 30 second ads for 3 minutes of content. Fast forward

  • Phil Matier

I’ve always enjoyed hearing Phil’s reporting and since I miss hearing Stan B, Steve B, I make sure to catch Phil (live or here).

Wish he had a longer segment, and thank you!

  • Too many ads

I love listening to Phil Matier and his incisive analysis of San Francisco politics. Miss him in SF Chronicle. This program is great and an adequate substitution for what’s missing in the print media. I think the pod cast right now is just trying to cram too many ads into it, knowing this is a popular program. But too many ads is a turn-off.

  • Phil is good

I enjoy hearing Phil, and if I don't catch him on KCBS then here is a back up.

I agree with "Chron Subscriber" - no need to cut it off prematurely! I think Phil needs a longer segment as the hosts usually chime in on the topics cuz they can get riled up too!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

SF's MUNI is facing a financial cliff and riders are one of the culprits
Q: Phil, what is that real bottom line here?
The bottom line is that fare payments are not being made consistently, leading to a big financial shortfall for MUNI.
Swalwell claims Trump trying to use FBI to sway California's gubernatorial race
Q: Phil, good morning. We should point out this investigation a decade ago led to no charges. Swalwell says it's clearly political targeting. What do you make of all this?
The situation is framed as political targeting: it's a compelling story that some see as used to smear Swalwell, who isn't considered a top target by Trump allies, while Democrats may view it as reinforcing the anti-Trump narrative and Swalwell's credentials as an opponent to Trump.
The San Francisco Police Department is in a hiring surge
Q: Phil, good morning. I guess we're all happy to hear that we're getting more cops, but the question is, show me the money. Who's going to pay for all this?
Funding will come from city decisions, potentially reallocating existing funds or generating new revenue, with political support and voter sentiment playing a big role.
BONUS: Is the American Dream over? Prices skyrocket, stocks tank as both political sides blame each other
Q: Is that really fair to say that California's high gas prices are the war's fault?
The guest explains that while the war raises international oil prices, Ca-lifornia's price premium comes from local factors, including policy, refinery constraints, and regional market dynamics, which amplify the impact beyond the national backdrop.
Light installation returns to the Bay Bridge while honoring Willie Brown
Q: How was the funding for the lighting project arranged without taxpayers' money?
The project was structured so that funding and maintenance would transition to the state after the initial lighting activation, ensuring a high-quality installation without relying on tax dollars for ongoing costs.
