In the mountains of central Appalachia, blood runs as deep as these hollers and just as dark. Since before our kind knew these hills, hearts of unknowable hunger and madness have slumbered beneath them. These are the darkest mountains in the world. How dare we think we can break the skin of a god and dig out its heart without bringing forth blood and darkness? Old Gods of Appalachia is a horror-an... more

I’m a seasoned horror reader/watcher/listener, and old gods is one of my favorite pieces of horror media. Equal parts comforting, mysterious, and gnarly, I’m constantly entranced by these storylines. The voice performances are great and the writing is strong. I just finished season 5, which switches up the storytelling, taking us to the Satanic panic era of the 80s/90s in Appalachia and it’s easily one of my favorites. These stories are dynamic and keep you on your toes. I’d recommend for any fa... more
What an absolute gem of a series. Please never stop. The writing is perfection and the characters so rich and well developed. Love love love.
Yup. It’s a good one. Much enjoyed. Thank you!
I don't normally like horror or anthology podcasts or feeling like I'm being read to but this podcast defied all my expectations and it's one of my favorites. Every time you listen, you feel like you're sitting around the fire in a mountain cabin in the woods listening to stories, and they are riveting. I cannot recommend this highly enough.
I’ve listened to all seasons 3 times - a creature of habit, I guess. I feel pretty solid in giving 3 stars, after the amount of times listened - and my subscription to The Holler. This show starts out strong. I recommended it to everyone I knew who enjoys darker stories. I anticipated every episode as it was released - but now? Sometime at the end of season 3, through season 4 it lost its spark. Season 5 was absolutely wretched, and the amount of time between releases for season 6 is wildly unde... more

A dark, atmospheric horror-anthology set in an alternate Appalachian world where ancient powers, folklore, and shadowy networks intersect with modern ambition. Episodes weave Gothic family sagas, occult lore, and tense power plays across a landscape of trains, rail hubs, sanatoriums, and backcountry towns, delivering dense world-building, strong narration, and a penchant for intertwining story arcs that pay off across seasons. Listeners can expect meticulous sound design, layered character dynamics, and a steady stream of lore, with occasional meta-commentary on wealth, influence, and ethical boundaries. The show often blends myth with contemporary stakes, making it appealing to fans of suspenseful, lore-rich horror and serialized storytell... more
