In the mountains of central Appalachia, blood runs as deep as these hollers and just as dark. Since before our kind knew these hills, hearts of unknowable hunger and madness have slumbered beneath them. These are the darkest mountains in the world. How dare we think we can break the skin of a god and dig out its heart without bringing forth blood and darkness? Old Gods of Appalachia is a horror-an... more

can steve shell please narrate every mundane task and interaction i have in life???
this show is impeccably written, beautifully voiced and is a rich bountiful world of amazing characters and stories winding the backroads of a dark and magical appalachia. i'll never stop listening. please come to new york!!
So happy I found this one. The stories are great. I love how it all weaves together over time. The audio/volume is well done and 4 seasons in it hasn’t lost its luster unlike a few others I loved at first but waned over time.
The first couple of seasons are great and I found myself looking forward to new episodes. But now it’s lost its magic. It seems like the writers are more focused on weaving their agenda into the story than telling a good story. It’s always been there but it’s gotten more blatant to the point where it’s takes away from the story being told.
The world-building in this podcast is phenomenal! From character development and plot depth to sound design and detailed settings, I was blown away every single episode.
As someone who tends to predict plots, the pace of Old Gods and movement between storylines is so great. I have enjoyed every minute and actually had to ration Season 5 because I tore through the series so fast… can’t wait until January 2026!
It's an excellent podcast. I've listened to every episode in every season 1-5. It's well written and well acted.
