I find it very difficult to bounce back and forth between (I think) four readers, especially as one is very slow and stilted, and another's OBVIOUS affectation is one of the most annoying things I've ever heard. The book is lovely, so it's a shame that the reading is done so poorly half the time.
I would give the book itself 5 stars, but this specific recording is barely 3.
The narraters are not always very good most were good but the readers change to often for a nice glide through the book.
Some of the readers are good, but the lady who does chapter 51 & others is particularly bad.
Too many different voices!!!
Love North and South but much prefer a single reader. The flow of the story seems broken up, especially when the voices and quality of reading are so different.
North and South has always been a favorite of mine, and I love being able to listen to it while Iām doing something else. The narrators were mostly good, though a few of them were so bad I had to find those chapters somewhere else (like ch 3 & ch 13) Otherwise, love it!
I liked the voice of the main reader, but unfortunately there were one or two voices I really disliked, they had no warmth to them and it was like they read it but didn't understand the words, which made for very "flat" reading. But all in all I did like it a lot.
