This made the episode nearly unlistenable and she did it from start to finish. We want to hear the guests speak and learn from them but have the host constantly ... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 45: Boots on the Ground Biology
Q: What upcoming technologies or projects excite you the most?
The MODIS towers for tracking winged and ground-dwelling species, infrared aerial imaging for non-disturbance surveys, and broader genetics work to inform translocation and source population decisions.
Episode 45: Boots on the Ground Biology
Q: How do you balance science with public input and economic concerns?
Science provides the foundation, but public trust and open communication are essential; meetings, public comment periods, and one-on-one discussions help align conservation actions with stakeholder needs while protecting wildlife populations.
Episode 45: Boots on the Ground Biology
Q: How do you decide which species to focus on and how do you prioritize areas?
Prioritization combines game species funding, population sustainability, accessibility of properties, habitat types, and the potential for meaningful conservation impact across NM's diverse ecosystems.
Episode 45: Boots on the Ground Biology
Q: What does a wildlife biologist actually do in the field day-to-day?
Biologists conduct surveys, monitor habitat, capture and tag animals when needed, set up nests and traps, collect data on behavior and occupancy, and coordinate with partners to ensure fieldwork aligns with management goals and permits.
Episode 43: Big Game Draw 101 - How the System Works
Q: So Chad, walk us through how the draw runs from start to finish for a basic one-species application like deer.
The system assigns a random sequence number to all applications, then runs a fulfillment process from sequence number one through all applications, checking each applicant's first, second, and third choices in order until licenses are exhausted.
