This review is long overdue - Cal’s presentation is entertaining, insightful and educational. You’ll have fun listening and just might learn a thing or two as well.
Bloody love this show.
Links me to what’s happening in the States and closer to home. Thanks for the timely heads-up on the spring bear survey.
Really looking forward to the Houndation series.
March 2026 update:
Love this show even more and the Houndations podcast is fabulous!
This is a great podcast, I prefer the news podcasts to the interview podcast but that’s not Cals fault, not everyone is a riveting interviewee.
The show has been trending politically left for some time now. Just give me the conservation news without political commentary, please.
Like it or not, Cal can’t be separated from BHA or the meat eater. I take it. His opinions are the policies of both organizations.
I just don’t understand the thinking from outdoorsmen believing that if they just parrot the talking points that they will be killed last (not literally). Maybe they will be killed last but assuredly they will be killed.
I’ll generally skip Ol Cal’s interview episodes, but when I saw that he had representatives Zinke and Vasquez in a room, I made time.
We need more interviews like these — Americans who don’t see eye to eye on everything but can sit down in a room, be adults, and actively and optimistically search for ways to find common ground. Even if it’s just on one issue.

A week-in-review focused outdoor news, wildlife policy, hunting, and conservation. Episodes blend field reports, regulatory updates, and real-world anecdotes with a strong emphasis on public lands, access, and responsible hunting. A notable stand-out is the journalistically minded host who often weaves personal experiences with policy details, creating a practical briefing for listeners who want to stay informed and engaged with decision-makers. The format tends to center on data-driven updates, with occasional guests or specialists, and a recurring stance that civic participation and habitat stewardship matter to outdoor enthusiasts and communities alike.
