    Bloody love this show.

  • Very informative podcast

This is a great podcast, I prefer the news podcasts to the interview podcast but that’s not Cals fault, not everyone is a riveting interviewee.

  • Bummer, will BHA also go Left?

The show has been trending politically left for some time now. Just give me the conservation news without political commentary, please.

Like it or not, Cal can’t be separated from BHA or the meat eater. I take it. His opinions are the policies of both organizations.

I just don’t understand the thinking from outdoorsmen believing that if they just parrot the talking points that they will be killed last (not literally). Maybe they will be killed last but assuredly they will be killed.

  • More of This

I’ll generally skip Ol Cal’s interview episodes, but when I saw that he had representatives Zinke and Vasquez in a room, I made time.

We need more interviews like these — Americans who don’t see eye to eye on everything but can sit down in a room, be adults, and actively and optimistically search for ways to find common ground. Even if it’s just on one issue.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep. 474: Future Wild - A Case for Wildness with David Quammen
Q: What role do large landscapes and connectivity play in sustaining wildness?
Large landscapes with connectivity prevent ecological isolation that leads to extinction vortices; they ensure viable populations of top predators, maintain genetic diversity, support complex food webs, and enable natural ecological processes to continue across the ecosystem. Fragmentation creates islands where species drift toward decline and potential collapse, whereas corridors and integrated land-use planning keep ecosystems resilient.
Ep. 474: Future Wild - A Case for Wildness with David Quammen
Q: How would you define wildness and why is it worth preserving?
Wildness, in its core, is nature in its most dynamic and interconnected state—large, diverse, and ecologically functioning—and preserving it matters because it sustains ecological processes and provides a context for human life that is real, not manufactured. It also offers pragmatic benefits like clean water, healthy forests, and resilient predator–prey dynamics that support broader biodiversity and human well-being.
Ep. 471: Future Wild - The Simplest Approach to Fishing, Adventure, and Saving Our Home Planet with Yvon Chouinard
Q: What kind of tangible actions could any individual citizen make this week or this decade to help save the planet?
Begin with practical habitat improvements like replacing lawns with native plantings to support insects and biodiversity, and extend this mindset to buying durable goods, repairing and reusing, and reducing overall consumption.
Ep. 471: Future Wild - The Simplest Approach to Fishing, Adventure, and Saving Our Home Planet with Yvon Chouinard
Q: Yvon, why is that the case?
Because simplicity has worked for him across sports and life, encouraging creativity and deeper knowledge rather than reliance on heavy gear or complexity.
Ep. 446: Public Lands Caucus with Gabe Vazquez and Ryan Zinke
Q: What can people do to help impact the process?
People can contact their representatives, advocate for public lands, and support legislation that protects these areas.
