  • The definitive podcast(s) for Austrian Economics

A great source of news and market information for those with an Austrian bent, the curious, or the libertarian. Offers multiple perspectives both from the mises.org blog and several podcasts run by the Mises Institute.

  • Feelings over Facts

In this age of outrage, neo-sophistry, and feelings over fact, this is a perfect echo chamber of strawman argumentation, ad hominem attacks, poor reasoning, and completely unnecessary immersed in feelings one would think this podcast is run by women of pansies. If this is how libertarians think, I want nothing to do with them.

  • This episode about a particular topic ignores today's unfortunate human nature of blithely commenting on important issues without a full understanding of the facts. Any type of media reporting today is usually someone's personal view and not a recitation of thoroughly researched facts. What President Trump said or did not say is, sadly, not attention getting unless a personal spin is put on his words.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Politics as Power: Elites, Inflation, and the Austrian Answer
Q: What should individuals do to protect themselves financially?
The recommended steps include paying down non-mortgage debt, maintaining cash reserves, and investing in precious metals and related mining stocks. He advocates for dollar-cost averaging into gold and other hard assets and staying long-term focused amid inflationary pressures and political risk.
Politics as Power: Elites, Inflation, and the Austrian Answer
Q: How does Austrian economics inform your investment approach?
He explains the Austrian business cycle theory, highlighting how central bank money creation lowers market rates, misallocates capital into unsustainable projects like AI and other tech, and ultimately leads to a bust. Accordingly, he positions gold, silver, hard assets, and commodities as hedges while avoiding long exposure to bonds and overvalued equities.
Politics as Power: Elites, Inflation, and the Austrian Answer
Q: What is your view on the current state of the US and global economy?
Thornton argues the economy is weak and unstable, with high debt across governments, businesses, and households. He sees sub-market interest rates persisting, overvalued stock markets, and large deficits as structural problems that will pressure inflation and demand higher future rates. He emphasizes that debt is largely non-productive and that the Fed's monetary expansion complicates debt servicing and investment.
Murray Rothbard on War and “Isolationism”
Q: Do you care to comment on the view that the only war in which the United States has been involved, which could be justified, is the Revolutionary War?
Rothbard agrees, arguing that interstate wars aggress against civilians, whereas revolutionary warfare from below can be more libertarian and selective in targeting the state itself, often avoiding civilian harm.
Two Important Graphs and Rick Rule
Q: Where do you see gold heading in the next decade given ongoing macro pressures?
Rick Rule argues that gold should preserve purchasing power over a 10-year horizon if monetary debasement continues and demand for dollars weakens globally; a multi-fold increase in nominal gold prices is possible if the currency loses significant value, though he cautions against overconcentrating in any single asset.
