Reviews

4.8 out of 5 stars from 128 ratings
  • This episode about a particular topic ignores today's unfortunate human nature of blithely commenting on important issues without a full understanding of the facts. Any type of media reporting today is usually someone's personal view and not a recitation of thoroughly researched facts. What President Trump said or did not say is, sadly, not attention getting unless a personal spin is put on his words.

In this episode, Ryan McMaken takes a look at how the domestic and commercial rituals of the Thanksgiving holiday are things that communists really don't like. Quotes: “Thanksgiving Day involves mostly a celebration of domestic and family life, quite separate from many presidential imperatives. Moreover, Thanksgiving celebrations take place primarily within the private and commercial spheres of life.” Lol... what a say nothing. Totally afraid to have a pov

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Gold Whiplash and the Petrodollar
Q: How do you see the Fed responding to potential inflationary pressures driven by energy and supply shocks?
The Fed may expand liquidity measures and use ad hoc QE-like actions if crises deepen, rather than relying on rate cuts, to calm markets while managing the government's debt dynamics.
Gold Whiplash and the Petrodollar
Q: What is making you optimistic or cautious about gold prices moving forward given the liquidity demand seen in the Middle East?
The rush toward liquidity is likely to exhaust itself; beyond that, central bank demand and strategic buying at lower prices could support a rebound, especially if technical support levels hold and geopolitical tensions persist.
What Would a Strategic Victory Look Like in Iran?
Q: what is the mowing the grass strategy that Israel uses?
Buck explains it as a strategy of degrading threats incrementally rather than seeking total victory, using limited, repeated military pressure to keep opponents at bay while avoiding a decisive end state.
The European View of Debt, Deficits, and Inflation
Q: Is there any real concern over a large amount of public indebtedness in Italy?
Ferrero suggests that while there is talk around public debt, many still believe that the issues can be addressed without true reform, reflecting a complacent attitude.
The European View of Debt, Deficits, and Inflation
Q: Can you start us off with the context of your article and the current debate in Italy regarding the budget bill?
Bernardo discusses the parliamentary debate over Italy's budget bill, highlighting the right-wing coalition's support for increased spending and the left's criticism of austerity measures.

Frequently Asked Questions About Mises Institute

What is Mises Institute about and what kind of topics does it cover?

A consistently libertarian-leaning program centered on Austrian economics, monetary reform, and a skeptical view of government power. Episodes frequently tie macro policy—Fed policy, debt, and fiat currencies—to real-world issues like foreign intervention, geopolitics, and regulatory burdens, often through the lens of monetary history, political economy, and critiques of elite decision-making. Listeners can expect deep dives into historical episodes, vivid case studies, and principled arguments that champion free markets, sound money, and non-interventionist foreign policy, with occasional forays into media critique and institutional accountability. A standout trait is the willingness to challenge mainstream narratives and spotlight long-ru... more
