Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

“A question of wisdom”: Improvisation, ethics, and the permeability of being alive
Q: What is the pedagogy of improvisation and how does one teach creativity without explicit instruction?
The pedagogy centers on enabling people to make noise and move without prompts, allowing collaboration to emerge organically, and framing it as a universal language that grows from play and embodied interaction.
“A question of wisdom”: Improvisation, ethics, and the permeability of being alive
Q: What role does ethics play in creativity, and can art be value‑neutral in today's world?
Ethics is inseparable from creativity; artistry and improvisation inherently involve judgments about what to reveal or hide, how to relate to others as equals, and how to engage with society in ways that acknowledge responsibility to others.
“A question of wisdom”: Improvisation, ethics, and the permeability of being alive
Q: How do you see improvisation relating to radical asymmetries of power and conflict, and are there limits to improvisational practices in the face of such realities?
There are limits to improvisation, but we don't always know what they are. Sometimes you have to test the limits to see what can be accomplished, accepting that you may not achieve much, yet you may still uncover surprising results.
“Hope is a Stance”: Ecology, Aesthetics, and Pluralities of Reason
Q: How do you see the relationship between beauty and ethics?
We live in a time that has lost its innocence towards beauty; beauty and the ugly are no longer simply opposites.
“Hope is a Stance”: Ecology, Aesthetics, and Pluralities of Reason
Q: Where are you finding hope these days?
I find hope in movements like the Zapatistas and the upcoming referendum in Austria regarding nuclear power, which remind me that change is possible.
