  • Good but sometimes tries too hard

I enjoy the Microbrew podcast for the most part. But sometimes JR’s skepticism and somewhat overall negative outlook on the Brewers becomes tiring. This team is historically good. The playoffs will always be a crapshoot. It would be nice if JR could be a little less alarmist in his takes. Curt does a fine job and has a nice casual style. But he is not as clever and funny as he thinks he is. Could do with about half of his pop culture references and what he believes are witty asides.

Emergency podcast: Brewers sign Luis Lara to extension and play an all-time wacky game (06.10.2026)
Q: What brought him here?
The discussion centers on Lara's upside and the Brewers' willingness to lock in several years of cost-controlled control, driven by a combination of strong defense, speed, and improving offense. They see him as a potential multi-year contributor and a hedge against rising arbitration costs, with incentives and options that could max out value if Lara reaches his ceiling.
Emergency podcast: Brewers sign Luis Lara to extension and play an all-time wacky game (06.10.2026)
Q: And since I think you're available to talk minor leagues with me. First of all, we'll get to all the machinations, we'll get to where he fits, but what are the Brewers getting?
Spencer describes Lara as an elite defensive center fielder with high athleticism, lightning speed, and a strong left/right bat profile. He notes Lara's potential to contribute immediately with defense and baserunning, while the bat shows growing power and plate discipline that could translate into a well-rounded big-league ceiling.
