I learn a lot from Dr. Scher, but I’m particularly impressed by his warm and caring style. Also over the moon when Dr. Georgia Ede visits!

I have gotten a lot from this podcast generally and so much of what Nina Teicholz says in this episode is right on. You people are complete fools however if you think Trump & co are going to deliver anything you mention here. It blows my mind you could think otherwise.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Dr. Eric Westman on the Future of Metabolic Medicine
Q: What impact do you think the Cholesterol Code documentary will have on practicing physicians when they see patients with high LDL the next day?
The documentary could shift physicians toward considering the broader metabolic picture, reducing overreliance on LDL alone, and encouraging more nuanced discussions about diet, lifestyle, and the potential for reversal of metabolic diseases.
Dr. Ken Berry on the Medical Landscape of Chronic Disease
Q: What do you think about the current state of evidence-based medicine and the hierarchy of evidence?
He argues that while randomized trials are important, anecdotal patient experiences and N=1 cases should influence individual care and drive curiosity beyond what traditional guidelines currently allow.
Q&A: Does Keto Help or Hurt AFib? KETO-CTA Study, Ketone levels & More
Q: How can someone raise ketone levels when all else fails without compromising energy or thyroid function?
Focus on ensuring adequate calories and fat, consider increasing carbohydrate slightly if insulin sensitivity allows while staying in ketosis, and explore non-diet factors like sleep and stress, with professional guidance to adjust strategy and consider exogenous options if appropriate.
Q&A: Does Keto Help or Hurt AFib? KETO-CTA Study, Ketone levels & More
Q: What was the Keto CTA study and what does it mean for people using keto for mental health or diabetes?
The Keto CTA study examined lean, metabolically healthy individuals who developed higher LDL on ketosis; the initial publication was retracted due to inaccurate data and inconsistent readings, so current evidence is inconclusive and more robust, peer-reviewed studies are needed to draw firm conclusions.
Q&A: Does Keto Help or Hurt AFib? KETO-CTA Study, Ketone levels & More
Q: What is the effect of keto on AFib, and how can keto improve heart muscles?
Keto generally helps by addressing contributing factors to AFib such as high blood pressure, sleep apnea, and heart muscle thickening, though early in ketosis there can be fluid and electrolyte shifts that may transiently affect the heart, which is preventable with proper hydration and monitoring.
