  • My Dad was diagnosed as hypomanic at 66yo. He died at 79yo, leaving behind a traumatized wife and severely broken family. I wish we'd known about this option then. Thank heavens for the work you're doing to help these people and their families. A VERY enlightening and hope filled episode.

I have gotten a lot from this podcast generally and so much of what Nina Teicholz says in this episode is right on. You people are complete fools however if you think Trump & co are going to deliver anything you mention here. It blows my mind you could think otherwise.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Q&A: Does Keto Harm Thyroid Function? Bone Health, Ketones & More
Q: How should someone monitor thyroid function if they are on a ketogenic or carnivore diet, especially with preexisting thyroid disease or lithium use?
Monitor TSH and T3 as well as symptoms; in many cases T3 may drop slightly while TSH remains normal, but any new symptoms or rising TSH should prompt medical review and possible medication adjustments under supervision, particularly with lithium.
Q&A: Does Keto Harm Thyroid Function? Bone Health, Ketones & More
Q: Can a ketogenic diet help improve hypothyroidism and possibly allow for reducing thyroid medications?
Current evidence does not support using a ketogenic diet as a primary treatment for hypothyroidism; some individuals may see improvements or stable symptoms, but this is not guaranteed and adjustments should be guided by a clinician.
Metabolic Psychiatry in Practice: Ketogenic Therapy for Mental Health Care
Q: Tell me, in your own mind, what is the thing that the mental health profession really gets wrong or has a misconception about that you wish were different?
The biggest misconception is that people with mental health challenges cannot make meaningful changes; in fact, with proper structure, education, and support, people can and do make significant improvements, especially when it helps them feel better.
Is This the Best Food Score Yet? | With Dr. Ty Beal
Q: What is the major misconception in nutrition you wish would change?
That animal-sourced foods are inherently bad; they can play a meaningful role in a balanced diet, and the score aims to reflect nutrients and context rather than demonize or idealize whole food groups.
Can You Prevent Dementia? A Neuroscientist Explains
Q: Is ketones or a ketogenic diet essential for brain health and dementia prevention?
Ketones can be a useful tool in certain contexts, particularly for neuroprotection or in some brain injuries and cognitive disorders, but they are not a universal solution; the evidence base is still evolving, and a broader lifestyle approach generally yields broader benefits for brain health.
