Melancholy, but oddly sweet account of a mortician who protects his village from a great evil, even as most of its inhabitants turn against him. Set in a period of strictly coded behavior that could either be the past or the future, the undertaker does what he must, not only for the sake of the village, but for his family's appointed position and role in this world. Calm and restrained narration accompanied by nostalgic and mournful music that suits the tone of the story.
I really love "Assam and Darjeeling" and had listened to "Matters" last year when it came out. I decided to give it another listen as I could not quite remember parts of the plot.
