We're *really* pushing it by trying to cram all of Indonesia's deliciousness into an hour long episode. But we tried. With staples like satay and nasi goreng to the definition of Fresh, Gado Gado, Indonesia is bursting with flavours that are familiar... more
How could H be anything but our beloved and precious Hong Kong. It doesn't hurt that Hong Kong is one of the richest food cities in the world. So much to talk about. Dim sum, roast goose, milk tea, and much more. A delicious episode all round.
We open with a bang on this one, you don't want to miss it. A reasonably mysterious and uncharted country for most of us, Guatemala is complex but hugely important in food history. Home to one of the most enduring foods ever created by human hands, G... more
"Finland, Finland, Finland. The country where I like to be. Pony trekking or camping...or just watching TV." What more needs to be said about Finland that hasn't already been said by Monty Python? Lots, actually. Like drinking hallucinogenic reindeer... more
Our first African episode of the new season, and what a great introduction to the continent. Ethiopia is fascinating on just about every level, especially its food. A lot of misconceptions to clear up to start with but then we dive into the delicious... more
Ok yes we're cheating a little bit with this one but Dubai's larger-than-life persona can reasonably warrant its own episode, especially when you hear what deliciousness can be found there. A complex and layered place, Dubai is a magnet for local, re... more
Have you ever met anyone who's been to Croatia and didn't like it? No of course you haven't because they don't exist. Blessed with hundreds of miles of coastline, productive arable land, and generations of food production prowess, Croatia is home to ... more
For a country that hasn't existed (at least officially) for very long, Belgium has made a massive contribution to our global kitchen. Beer, fries, chocolate, waffles and more...pound for pound, Belgium is bringing a lot to the table. (Get it? Table? ... more
Enjoyed this episode so much. So hard to pick favourites in Hong Kong - loved the fish ball soup at Tsim Chai Kee on Wellington, and the roast goose at Yung Kee (Wellington as well). Had a great birthday dinner at Happy Paradise - loved the mochi apple pie with coconut cream and charcoal ash, washed down with a five spice G&T.
I started listening to Alex and Paul on Layovers podcast a year ago or so and fell in love with their style and content. All Layovers episode finished and now I discovered this another podcast by Alex and his brother dedicated to food! Superb!!! You won’t get bored and feel you like wasted your time. Amazing content and very engaging style of talking from both hosts! Love love love it!
Just finished listening to the Peanut Butter episode. Here’s how much I like this show: I’m deathly allergic to peanuts and STILL listened to this! Alex and Will have great chemistry and their content is a great mix of banter, food history and discussions you can use to discover something new for your palate. Just not peanuts for me, I’m afraid. I’m a Layovers listener and still love the “L” episode most. Keep cooking guys!
I love this pod, i came in at episode L and have worked my way back to A.
It is really cool to hear how Will and Alex see there food and how some things differ around the world and how things really don't. They have a great rapport, almost as if they were brothers (haha). They also know there food and Will's background research is fantastic.
Final the thing i really love is the fact that it feels like they are really interacting with the audiance by taking note of what people are say to them ... more
Just binged listened 3 episodes and I’m hooked! Heard about it from listening to layovers podcast and I’m glad I did!
Just started listening and so far a pretty good podcast. BUT I'm on the eggplant episode and had to stop to correct the following misinformation: no fruits, eggplant or otherwise, are ever "male or female". Every botanical fruit is the product of a plant's ripened ovary (and therefore technically "female"). There are no "male" fruits. I see this myth perpetuated with bell peppers as well. The number of seeds in a fruit can vary widely due to a number of factors including ecological conditions an... more

The podcast that makes you food smart, food happy and …HUNGRY (I want to eat all the food!)
And yes I keep writing the word ‘food’ in this review, as Alex and Will have that gift: making you fall in love with food (see?!) all over again.
Entertaining, informative and funny. Downside is it Makes me hungry and I’m trying to diet!!
Two thumbs way up for this podcast - Will and Alex are witty and super informative. Love the alphabetic format. Highly recommend!!
Great content as always with Alex. And along with Will, who manages to add flair and attention to details, make this the best food and food culture podcast out there. I have listened to every Layovers and Mastication nation episodes; super fan girl! Keep going please!
However, listening to Episode four about dim sum raised a few eyebrows for my Hong Kong self.
Firstly, dim sum is a Cantonese food concept. Originally, like wonton noodles, they were only made popular and widespread as a favouri... more
