  • Replaying other talent’s interviews

Reusing the Tim Benz podcast “ Madden Mondays” as a Benz appearance is sad. Benz interviews Mark on this podcast - Tim steers the discussion - its a prerecorded bit - yet most probably dont know this and think it’s a live interview. Mark’s agent is the super genius.

  • Good and bad.

The Good - Madden doesn’t care what anyone thinks about him, which comes in handy when he rips apart Pittsburgh fans who can be a bit dim. He also does a great job at interviewing, and he gets some fantastic guests. He can be hilarious, especially when he’s hanging up on callers who don’t agree with him. He also knows hockey better than anyone in the local sports talk scene, and he’s well connected in the NHL world.

The Bad - He’s old, cranky and arrogant. You can hear the flem in his throa... more

There’s more to people than that? No not with what is happening now. It’s truly time. You hate your job you said nothing about the election with a huge population listening. No there’s not more to people than that. You are like

Lebron . People thought he was going to be a social awareness leader but is too lazy and not very smart. That is sadly what Madden is. I moved to really like this guy until he wouldn’t talk logically when his country needed him to. It’s time for us all to stop listening t... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

HR 2- Mike DeCourcey Talking Skenes and Steelers, Sean Casey Joins the Show
Q: Case, you batted 364 lifetime against Greg Maddux, who might be one of the five best pitchers of all time. How'd you pull that off?
Casey explains his approach to Maddux, adjusting as the at-bats progressed, recognizing how Maddux attacked lefties and using patience and timing to stay competitive against a master of movement.
HR 3 - Bob Nightengale on Trade Deadline, Pirates Stockholm Syndrome
Q: Which names might the Pirates move, and what kind of return could they expect?
Nightengale details that the Pirates would likely seek top prospects in any deal, possibly a top-10 prospect plus a top-20 to obtain a meaningful return, especially when aiming to improve bullpen and overall depth.
HR 3 - Bob Nightengale on Trade Deadline, Pirates Stockholm Syndrome
Q: Bob, you reported that the pirates want to be aggressive in the trade market, but not add payroll. How are those two things simultaneously possible?
Nightengale explains that teams can target payroll-relief moves by trading away expensive players or taking on some salary in a way that still preserves flexibility, often by leveraging top prospects to balance value.
HR 2 - Alan Saunders, Paul Steigerwald
Q: Alan, I was just talking to Tim Benz about this. Is TJ Watt likely to bounce back and hit double digits in sacks, or are his snaps and thus his sacks likely to go down?
Alan Saunders suggests Watt's snaps will go down and that will improve his per-snap productivity, with a deeper rotation helping him stay fresh and productive.
HR 1 - Peter King, Tim Benz
Q: Pete, should the NFL expand to Europe?
Peter King says the expansion is unlikely in the near term; a single overseas franchise would be problematic without a broader European division or multiple teams to justify travel and fan alignment, and the league would require substantial financial incentives to pursue overseas play.
