  • ditch radio format for podcast

I usually enjoy the show as a way to stay in touch with ME or just to enjoy the topics that aren’t about ME.

My issue with the show is that it’s formatted for the radio. They rush to include as many callers as possible but then cut them off abruptly destroying the chemistry of the call in. The show would be much better as a podcast, which is much more modern and its formatting.

The host is overly eager to re-explain guests, comments. It comes across its very domineering and it’s very difficult ... more

  • Maine Calling is Well Done

Always topics of current interest. Jennifer Rooks has a special gift as moderator keeping the discussion moving and redirecting the discussion when callers and speakers wander off topic.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Catholicism in Maine
Q: How does the church address inclusion of queer and transgender individuals within a framework of traditional teachings?
The invitation is to conversion towards a life in Christ, with room for all in the pews, while upholding teachings on marriage and sexuality; there is emphasis on pastoral care and discernment rather than exclusion.
Catholicism in Maine
Q: What explains the surge of interest among younger people in Catholicism, especially among scientists and engineers?
There is a perception that younger, scientifically-minded people seek a faith that offers depth and meaning beyond a straightforward materialist view; long-form discussions and a global Church narrative help bridge science and faith.
Catholicism in Maine
Q: Kyle, what is a Vicar General and what does that role entail in the diocese?
The Vicar General is the prime assistant to the bishop, serving across the diocese with responsibilities that include governance, priest assignments, and organizational planning, not limited to a single parish.
250th & Patriotism
Q: What does patriotism mean in the modern era?
Patriotism is about shared values, civic engagement, and a commitment to a more perfect union that includes everyone, even as people hold diverse views and critique the nation where needed.
Lewiston: Growth & Renewal
Q: What role does public safety play in Lewiston's renewal, and how are leaders addressing gun violence?
Public safety remains the top priority, with collaboration among the police department, DA's office, and community partners to tackle youth gun violence and to implement broader preventive strategies while acknowledging ongoing challenges.
