Reviews

  • SCOTUS

The guest’s views on the court are abstract and defer analysis of the court. She is cherry picking a positive view of the court at a time when the court as a whole is out of control and corrupt.

Your guest doesn’t mention the overturn of roe v wade until idk because I couldn’t listen to her rationalizations any longer… sad day

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The 'how' behind the sub-two hour marathon
Q: How did the pace and course conditions contribute to the sub-two-hour breakthroughs?
Experts explained that optimal pacing, weather, and a supportive environment on a track-like course, plus the right footwear and fueling strategies, created a near-perfect context that pushed athletes toward the sub-two-hour mark without violating race rules.
Why authoritarians put their faces on everything
Q: Why do leaders use ubiquitous imagery of themselves in public spaces, and what effect does this have on democracy?
The imagery creates a sense of continuity and inevitability around the leader, making their presence feel normal and inescapable, which can erode critical scrutiny and solidify a personalistic regime.
Inside the life of a 'degenerate' sports gambler
Q: How did early wins affect behavior and perceptions of risk?
Early wins created a sense of skill and inevitability, triggering rule-breaking impulses and a belief in being an exception to the odds, which intensified risk-taking.
Inside the life of a 'degenerate' sports gambler
Q: What did Nate Silver advise as a framework for being a 'respectable' gambler, and did the approach hold up?
Silver recommended a disciplined, emotion-free, model-driven approach with careful bankroll management; the interviewee followed it at first, but the emotional lure and social dynamics eventually led to breaking the rules and escalating risk.
Inside the life of a 'degenerate' sports gambler
Q: What was the genesis of the idea for the year-long gambling experiment?
The idea arose from a plan to report on the sports betting industry, but a proposal from the editor to fund the journalist's own gambling created a deeper, experiential path to understand addiction and industry mechanics firsthand.
