Had this on my list for a while but never got round to listening to it. Ended up bingeing all nine episodes over a lazy Sunday afternoon and now it’s on my list for a re-listen. Rosemary is a wonderful host - warm, wise and most of all compassionate. We need more voices and stories like hers to rehumanize a criminal system that seeks to dehumanize offenders. Thank you for sharing your story, Rosemary. Another season perhaps?!?

While I appreciate how rough prison life must be, I couldn’t escape the recurring thought that this show focuses on a self serving ’woe is me’ narrative. I heard little accountability being taken and lots of “prison traumatised me and it was so unfair”. I feel terribly bad for the host and her guests and wish them the very best, but can’t help but think that the punitive nature of a prison sentence was somehow lost on them throughout their experiences. I’m leaving these 9 episodes with a deeper understanding of the lives of incarcerated women and their experiences in prison. The narrator’s vulnerability and passion for telling stories from all perspectives of those impacted by incarceration is some of the best I’ve ever heard. For the reviews saying it lacks accountability makes me think they didn’t listen to the series in its entirety.
