Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Inside the World of The Sinkovic Brothers
Q: Why switch between boat classes, and how did you approach rebuilding balance and rhythm when moving to the pair after the double?
It was a strategic challenge to test resilience and skill across boats; the key was accepting imperfect balance, staying relaxed, and rebuilding cohesion through years of practice.
Inside the World of The Sinkovic Brothers
Q: How has the sport evolved over the years, and what changes have you noticed in technique and training since you first started?
Rates are higher now, but the fundamental need for flawless technique remains; you push stroke rates up while carefully preserving technical form and balance to stay fast.
Getting Ready for Henley with ⁨@HenleyRoyalRegatta⁩'s New Chair Richard Phelps OLY
Q: What was the moment you realized you wouldn't continue as an athlete at the top level?
After the 1994 World Championships where results suggested there was a long road to medals, I decided to pursue a career and move away from full-time competition, recognizing I needed to prioritize stability and future opportunities.
Getting Ready for Henley with ⁨@HenleyRoyalRegatta⁩'s New Chair Richard Phelps OLY
Q: What advice would you give to the current athletes competing in the boat race?
Focus first on making your boat go fast; once you have speed, apply that to your opposition, taking one step and one stroke at a time to maximize performance.
Getting Ready for Henley with ⁨@HenleyRoyalRegatta⁩'s New Chair Richard Phelps OLY
Q: Did you feel forced into it or was it just something you had to have a go at?
I never felt forced into it. I wasn't sure I'd end up in leadership roles, but over time I became one of the more senior members and was encouraged to take on responsibilities, which gradually led to chairing the committee.
