  • Please don’t podcast together!

Guys I love you and the info you provide but after hearing today’s episode I couldn’t be any more turned off to it. It’s like a little kid listening to mom and dad fight. It’s really awkward and feels like something that should be private and not aired out for everyone to hear. Guys, I’m a big fan but lock in already. You’re trying to promote together in the trades and listen to how the two of you talk to each other. Love you guys but not a fan of the two of you together on here.

I’ve been in the landscape business for 20 years and own my own company. I discovered this podcast two years ago and it completely changed my perspective. It introduced me to the incredible hardscape community I didn’t even know existed. Working in Florida, this industry can be tough, but hearing from Kid Contractor and all the voices featured on the show makes it feel more like a family you can grow with. Always motivating, always real—keep up the great work, guys!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep 708. Escape the Owner's Trap: How Documentation Allows You to Replace Yourself in the Field w/ Tony Bass
Q: How should a contractor approach retention and progression for staff?
Provide frequent pay raises tied to milestones and recognize advancement quickly; implement a clear benefits plan with staged eligibility to encourage long-term commitment and align compensation with growth.
Ep 708. Escape the Owner's Trap: How Documentation Allows You to Replace Yourself in the Field w/ Tony Bass
Q: What are the two big changes in recruiting that you recommend?
Rewrite job ads to focus on what employees want, not just what the company needs; use non-traditional headlines to attract people who might not see themselves in standard roles, and pre-screen with recorded content to filter before interviews.
Ep 697. Why a New Hire's Failure is 100% Your Fault with Sam Gembel
Q: How much responsibility does the company carry when a new hire fails in the first 90 days?
A hundred percent responsibility, because lack of training and clarity often causes failure; if not, it may be due to the employee, but the company must ensure proper training and clear expectations.
Ep 696. Beyond the Paycheck: Building a Culture of Leadership with Sam Gembel
Q: What is the first step for awakening leaders in a growing company?
Create a culture of training and leadership from day one, be explicit about what a successful day looks like, and start delegating with a plan to develop leaders, not just employees who perform tasks.
Ep 671. Live from The Morning Show at EQUIP 2025!
Q: What does winning at life mean to you and your family?
Winning at life means doing what you enjoy with your family, prioritizing stability and happiness over sheer scale, and ensuring that business serves the life you want to lead rather than consuming it.
