  • A Fresh of Breath Air

An excellent podcast with Chris Argent and Mike Rose, which really proves that there is more to it than numbers. It's refreshing to hear the human side of things, which is often overlooked.

A particular highlight is Dominique's episode. It's refreshing to hear someone say that if you are not valued, you should leave and find a place that does.

These podcasts are brilliant. I have now subscribed and look forward to the rest of the episodes.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

100 Episodes And Counting! Leadership, Jackets & The Truth About Imposter Syndrome
Q: Do you believe leaders are born or made?
Leaders are a mix of inherent traits and developed skills; they can be learned and strengthened through coaching, experience, and deliberate practice.
From Proud Mum to Tax Trailblazer: Katharina Herzog on Breaking Myths & Balancing Leadership
Q: What's the difference between an accountancy role and a tax role in practice?
Accountants prepare high-quality financial statements; tax professionals work with those foundations to ensure tax efficiency and compliance, and both must collaborate closely to reflect underlying business transactions accurately.
From Proud Mum to Tax Trailblazer: Katharina Herzog on Breaking Myths & Balancing Leadership
Q: How did you end up in the tax role, and was it a deliberate career plan or a natural progression?
It wasn't a fixed plan; I started in IT consulting, moved into group accounting, and eventually took over the tax function because accounting and taxes are complementary and essential in shaping the business.
From Proud Mum to Tax Trailblazer: Katharina Herzog on Breaking Myths & Balancing Leadership
Q: If there was one myth you wanted to myth bust in your role, what would it be?
That finance people are boring; in-house accounting and tax are dynamic, collaborative, and central to driving a company's success, not a dull back-office function.
Reimagining Finance: Tariq Munir on AI, Change & Courageous Leadership
Q: What skills do leaders need to continue to hone and develop today?
Leaders should cultivate ongoing curiosity and adaptability, staying open to new technologies and methods, whether AI, data storytelling, or facilitation, so they remain seen as capable, flexible leaders rather than relying on past methods.
