  • “How one many rebuilt his life, 100 miles at a time”

Loved the “How one man rebuilt his life, 100 miles at a time” episode! It was my first listen for this podcast but definitely not my last. Such a good story and fascinating insight into life after prison for all these people.

  • Plain stupidity or misinformation?

So much misinformation spread in the anti black Latinos episodes. You should know what those words mean in Spanish or at least in Mexico.

Thank you so much for bringing these insightful stories to us all. The one I just listened to was the one with Caesar in regard to his walk after prison, it’s good to hear that America is starting to bring light and proactive solutions to reduce recidivism. Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Route 66 has a 100-year legacy of American road trips and expansion, but the Mother Road had its problems too
Q: So what made you want to report on the 100th anniversary of Route 66?
Cato explains the road's iconic status in California and its complex history, including its romanticization, its role in migration, and how racialized experiences shaped its legacy; the goal was to explore how Route 66 influenced communities and ultimately declined under interstate expansion.
We did the math: Men speak way more than women in the 10 films up for the top Oscar
Q: What does this say about the industry beyond these films?
The disparity in dialogue suggests institutional priorities in which stories are elevated, indicating a need for broader structural changes behind and in front of the camera to promote more inclusive storytelling.
We did the math: Men speak way more than women in the 10 films up for the top Oscar
Q: Why did you focus on dialogue instead of just the casting of female characters?
I wanted to examine the actual words characters say on screen because dialogue is a direct indicator of presence and voice, though I acknowledge it's not a complete measure of representation.
California is not tracking whether its multi-billion dollar public preschool program is working. So how do we know if it’s helping or hurting students?
Q: What conclusions can we draw as to how California's TK program has fared so far in the absence of all of those studies?
Responses are mixed; some parents report positive experiences while others have concerns, and overall there's no comprehensive inside-the-classroom view yet, which makes it hard to assess true effectiveness.
California is not tracking whether its multi-billion dollar public preschool program is working. So how do we know if it’s helping or hurting students?
Q: Elly, why has it been so difficult for California to launch a study of its own Transitional Kindergarten or TK program?
Experts say there has been a norm of not setting aside funds for evaluating large programs, and researchers are working in silos rather than under a centralized evaluation plan, making it hard to determine overall impact.
