  • Balm & light

This podcast is both a balm for the stressed, weary writer’s soul and a light to keep writing. Rachael’s voice, her insights and guests provide exactly what I need as a writer - to know I’m not doing it wrong and encouragement to write one more word.

  • Especially grateful today…

I’ve been a listener for a few months now, my first memoir was published a year ago. Last night I saw my first one star review on Goodreads and it put me in a bad space. On today’s episode you talked about negative reviews and you said something along the lines of caring less about the one star reviews and more about the thoughtful two and three star reviews. It was exactly what I needed to hear to change my perspective. Thank you so much for the time you put into this podcast.

  • Amazing podcast for writers

There are so few successful writers who are willing to pull back the curtain on the writing life, so I feel very grateful to Rachael for doing just that. Guests are working writers who reveal personal specifics about habits, struggles and best practices. There are also solo episodes (my fave) where Rachael answers listeners’ questions. These are basically mini-masterclasses.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Writing Without Pressure, with Alicia Jo Rabins
Q: What is the kindest thing you've done for yourself as a writer?
Returning to the joy of writing by remembering the younger self who first wanted to tell stories, and seeking to recapture the curiosity and honesty that fueled early creativity.
Writing Without Pressure, with Alicia Jo Rabins
Q: Could you share a tip on marketing that has worked for you?
Treat marketing like a continuation of the creative process: stay curious, keep stakes low, experiment with formats that feel natural (like speaking into a phone), and avoid rigid structures such as mandatory newsletters if they don't fit your style.
Writing Without Pressure, with Alicia Jo Rabins
Q: What does your day-to-day writing look like right now?
She described generating material with low stakes—no critical self-judgment during drafting—and затем letting the mind transition to editing later, with a focus on keeping the process playful and sustainable.
How to Be Relentless About Protecting Your Writing Time, with Kelly Yang
Q: What tip would you give to writers to feel more secure in their craft?
Trick yourself into thinking no one will read your work and give yourself permission to write truthfully in the first draft, then decide what to share later; keep a manuscript that isn't intended for publication as a safe space for exploration.
How to Be Relentless About Protecting Your Writing Time, with Kelly Yang
Q: What part of the writing process do you find most exciting or challenging?
The revision phase excites me the most because it's like solving a jigsaw puzzle to preserve original intent while incorporating feedback, which makes the process stimulating rather than purely tedious.
