  • Lotsa Heart

Matt Spiegel’s 5/26 interview with Doug Glanville is why Matt has been my favorite Score host. He brought baseball acumen, prep, and heart to his interview celebrating Black players’ contribution to the game. Thank you, Matt!

  • Disappointed

Really wanted to like this show with Matt, I listened loyally for a few years; I love his optimism and he clearly loves the game, which made the show much better. However, his anti-capitalist rhetoric is the reason I stopped listening. Where does the money that funds his paycheck come from? Ad reads, commercials, and deals with the large corporate entities. The hypocrisy demolished any respect I had for him.

  • Run

Spiegel has the ability to turn any show he has pushed his way onto into a Spiegel-centric self-love fest. Baseball, a make-believe band and personal problems seem to be his topics of choice. If you’ve heard one show, you’ve heard them all.

  • Love Spiegs, and this may be unfair, but ...

... I can’t help comparing what this show is to what it used to be. Barry and Joe talked national baseball each week, and allowed me to catch up on stories aund MLB that I may have missed. The current show is mostly guests, and mostly talk about just the Cubs and White Sox. As a massive Cub fan, there isn’t a lot new hear that isn’t rehashing what I’ve heard/read throughout the week. As I say, Spiegs is the man, but I miss the old format.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Cliff Floyd talks Cubs: Nico Hoerner's leadoff success, platooning Moises Ballesteros (Hour 2)
Q: What did Cliff Floyd say about Freddie Peralta facing the Cubs and the pressure on him going into the game?
He suggested that Peralta would be asked to deliver in a crucial moment, but that the pressure of facing a strong Cubs lineup, especially with a new-look Mets, could influence performance, and that the stopper role is a high-pressure situation in that matchup.
Miguel Vargas joins us after his monster game in White Sox's win Saturday (Hour 2)
Q: So what's working for you right now at the plate?
Vargas explains that he is focusing on a steady approach, staying consistent with his mechanics, and riding the confidence from his offseason adjustments to stay competitive in every at-bat.
Ryan McGuffey isn't overreacting to the White Sox's slow start (Hour 2)
Q: What stood out most about the ABS system and its impact on the game so far?
McGuffey notes that the ABS system is reshaping the strike zone into a 2D interpretation centered in the middle of the plate, which could benefit hitters in some cases while constraining pitchers who rely on bottom-zone breaking balls; the change is likely to influence umpire behavior and pitch selection over time.
'Pitching Ninja' Rob Friedman talks new book 'Unhittable' on baseball's pitching dominance (Hour 2)
Q: So what is going on with the Reds' six-man rotation and could that apply to the Cubs?
Friedman explains it as a strategy to keep arms fresh by rotating a larger group, which could influence how teams manage bullpen days and rotation cadence, potentially affecting the Cubs if implemented.
Cubs have a shot to win the World Series (Hour 1)
Q: What are the Cubs' biggest advantages entering the season?
The Cubs have a strengthened lineup with Bregman, Conforto, Carlson, and a strong farm system having graduated top players, plus velocity and depth in the rotation with Cabrera and Kate Horton, which could help them win the division.
