HU&L was the very podcast I ever got into and subscribed to. I appreciated the show throughout all of its hosting permutations. The show’s approach to sports world was unique and something I could reliable count on to provide thoughtful and unique insight that wasn’t driven by feign incited and reactionary discussions, unlike so many other alternatives. And sadly, that’s probably why it no longer exists. I’m bummed I can’t count on this every week anymore after nearly 14 years of listening. But ... more
Seventeen years. What a run. I was a weekly listener dating back to probably 2010 (I read about it in a best podcast of the year list in Vulture).
HUAL always stood out in a crowded sports media market as intelligent, critical, funny, and fun — because of the hosts and also regardless of who was hosting.
Thank you to all of them and the many many brilliant guests who elevated sports talk and enriched my sports fandom.

I’ve been listening to this podcast for over a decade and to lose its’ insightful contributions to sports coverage is really rough. I really appreciated the coverage of multiple sports in a way that the most casual sports follower could find interesting. I will miss this show. It has been a must listen for several years. I hope the hosts move on to something similar.
Why do the most thoughtful yet entertaining podcasts get canceled??!! There are a bunch even just at Slate I’d cancel before this. I hope they’ll bring these three back.

A lively, multi-sport discussion show that blends in-depth analysis with cultural and business angles across football, basketball, baseball, hockey, and emerging tech in sports. Episodes frequently pair sharp statistical or historical context with commentary on media, governance, and the economics of sport, often featuring prominent guests who provide analytics, journalism, or industry insight. Notable is the show's ability to blend long-running narrative threads with timely coverage, and to incorporate cross-sport perspectives through a slate of expert guests, making it valuable for listeners who want thoughtful, context-rich conversations that connect on-field action to broader cultural and business trends.
